The reading comprehension test was administered to measure the stu dents’ comprehension in reading a narrative text after the action of the first cycle was conducted. The reading comprehension test was conducted on May 16 th , 2014. It consisted of 30 items in the form of multiple choices with three texts. Each text consisted of ten questions. There were 27 students joining the test. The following is the result of the reading test after the students had been taught reading by using SQ3R Table 4.1 The Result of the Studen ts’ Reading Comprehension Test Cycle 1 No Students’ name Reading score Achieved Not achieved 1 MAR 60 √ 2 ARS 90 √ 3 CDP 76 √ 4 FS 80 √ 5 SAN 80 √ 6 WRD 56 √ 7 AF 63 √ 8 AKF 76 √ 9 AAH 76 √ 10 MAS 53 √ 11 YRS 86 √ 12 DKR 66 √ 13 MAN 70 √ 14 MKN 76 √ 15 NQA 83 √ 16 MJ 83 √ 17 NZF 86 √ 18 RI 76 √ 19 AK 80 √ 20 DRS 73 √ 21 IK 83 √ 22 JFR 76 √ 23 QR 83 √ 24 TNP 66 √ 25 HIM 70 √ 26 IH 76 √ 27 ES 76 √ 18 9 M= ∑xn 74.7 E = x 100 66 34 M= Mean ∑x = the total score of the students’ reading comprehension test N= the total number of the students research subject Notes: E= the percentage of the students’ active participation n= the total number of the students who are categorized as active students N= the total number of the students Adapted from Ali, 1993:186 Based on Table 4.1 above, it was found out that the mean score of the students’ reading comprehension test was 74,7 and the percentage of the students gaining the score of at least 75 on reading comprehension test was 66 . In this research, the action was considered to be successful if 75 of the total students achieved the minimum standard score that was 75 of the reading test. In fact, there was only 66 or 18 students who could achieve the target while the rest, 34 or 9 students, could not achieve the target score. In conclusion, the action in Cycle 1 was not fully successful yet. Therefore, it was necessary for the researcher to continue the action to Cycle 2 by revising some weak aspects related to the use of SQ3R strategy in reading narrative learning process.
