TEMPERATURE LOAD:

The analysis for temperature variation shall be carried out separately in STAAD. Temperature variation of 15 degrees Celsius shall be considered in deign. In addition, shrinkage of superstructure beams shall be considered in design together with temperature fall condition. Since, both temperature variation and shrinkage are long term effects, the modulus of elasticity of concrete for this analysis shall be considered as half the instantaneous modulus of elasticity of concrete to take into account the creep effect.

The following two load cases shall be considered. (i) Temperature Rise of 15 degrees Celsius * (TEMP_R) Temperature variation shall be considered on all superstructure beams. Since almost the full length of piles will be

immersed in water, no temperature variation shall be considered in piles. (ii) Temperature Fall of 35 degrees Celsius * (TEMP_F) The magnitude of temperature fall is calculated below. Total shrinkage strain of concrete =

From the fresh soil investigation report it is observed that the lowest rock (Basalt) level is at (-) 23.000 m and good bearing stratum is available at (-) 26.000 m. As such, the pile capacity shall be calculated sockting length of rock as 3.000 m.

The vertical load carrying capacity socketed inside rock shall be calculaed as per the guideline given in Appendix-5 of IRC:78-2000 and also as per the provisions of Clause No. 6.5.1.1 of IS:14953-1998.
