CHAPTER V CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
This chapter presents the conclusions, which are the summary of the results and the findings in this research, and the recommendations to the ELESP
lecturers, to the ELESP students, and also to the further researchers.
A. Conclusions
This research aimed to answer two problem formulations stated in the first chapter i.e. to identify the English Language Education Study Program practice
teachers‟ problems in managing classroom during the School Practice Program and to identify the possible solutions to those problems.
1. English Language Education Study Program ELESP Practice Teachers’
Problems in Managing Classroom during the School Practice Program
The questionnaire, which consisted of close-ended and open-ended questions, was used to answer the first question of the research. Based on the results of the
close-ended questionnaire, it was proven that ELESP practice teachers in the academic year of 2009 did not have major problems in handling attendance,
problems in handling instructional materials, and problems about the regulations of physical conditions. Meanwhile, they had problems in handling classroom
activities and problems in improving working conditions. The problems in handling classroom activities were like the English Language Education Study
P rogram practice teacher‟s students did not always raise their hand before they
65 spoke during the teaching and learning activities; the students did not always
follow the practice teacher‟s instructions; and practice teacher‟s inability to
provide various learning activities. Besides, the problems in improving working conditions were like the ELESP
practice teacher‟s students did not always enter the class immediately after the bell at the beginning of the class rang; the students
did not always have the books or papers needed for the lesson with them; and the practice teacher‟s problems in time management.
Furthermore, based on the open-ended questionnaire results, there were also many other ELSEP practice teachers
‟ problems in managing classroom during the School Practice Program. The problems, however, could be classified into three
categories, which were the problems arising from students, the problems arising from the practice teachers, and the problems arising from the school facilities. The
problems arising from the students were like there were some students that were busy with their own activities; some students that liked to come late to the
classroom; and some students who were less-motivated, especially in the last hours of the school day. Meanwhile, the problems arising from the practice
teachers were like the practice teachers were unable to get maximum attention from the students, especially at the beginning of the lesson; the practice teachers
sometimes gave unclear instructions so that they needed to repeat their instruction several times, which meant not effective; and the practice teachers did not know
how to make their students actively participate in the classroom activities that had been prepared in advance. Furthermore, there were also other problems related to
66 the school facilities like there were no clock, neither the LCD nor viewer in the
classroom; and there was no language laboratory for a listening class.
2. The Possible Solutions to the English Language Education Study
