2. Positive backwash Positive backwash means that evaluation should give positive contribution to
the student’s learning achievement. The student’s achievement should be given as an appreciation for their success or as a learning spirit trigger for those who do
not succeed. In this research, progress test represent the results of the student’s progress. It gives much contribution for student’s learning achievement. In one
semester, there will be many progress tests. So, it is the best opportunity for student to achieve what is suppose to be. If the student fails in the first progress
test, they can work hard and try again in the second progress tests, third tests, and so on. Whether the student who passes the first progress test, they will learn
much so that in another test they will not get many difficulties. When student has a good mark in the first progress test, it will be easy for them in the next
progress test. 3. Competency oriented
Competency oriented means that the evaluation should evaluate the competency achievement in the curriculum. The English progress test for the first
year students of SMAN 1 Pamulang is evaluating the competency achievement in the curriculum. It appears in the first research answer that is the blue prints of the
English progress test for the first year students of SMAN 1 Pamulang. 4. Fair
Fair means all of students’ evaluation must be fair and it is not differentiate the socio-economic, culture, language, and gender background. In this research,

the four kinds of progress tests are made for all students without differentiate the socio-economic, culture, language, and gender background.
5. Open Open means that the evaluation criteria and the decision making base should
be clear and open for all students, teachers, schools, parents, and other persons who are interrelated. In this research, the English progress test is made by the
teacher to know the student’s progress openly. The result of the test is openly announced for the student’s progress themselves.
6. Continuous Continuous means that evaluation planning is gradually and continuously to
get the illustration of student’s learning development. In this research, progress test is continuously made to measure the student’s learning development.
7. Totality Totality means that the evaluation might use many kinds of technique and
procedure. Moreover, the teacher should collect of all students’ learning achievement results. The evaluation include cognitive, psychomotor and
affective. In this research, progress test evaluate the student on cognitive, psychomotor, and affective aspects.
8. Significance Significance means that the results of the test must be easy to understand. It is
also meaningful, useful, and continual. In this research, the paper test of progress test is easy to understand. It is also has meaning and useful for teaching learning
process.
