JOINT COMMUNIQUE
CONCERNING DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS
BETWEEN
THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA
AND
THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF EAST TIMOR

The Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the
Democratic Republic of East Timor;

desiring to promote and strengthen ties of friendship and cooperation between
the two countries and peoples on the basis of equality, mutual respect of each
other's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity as well as noninterference in the internal affairs of each other;
guided by the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations as well
as the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961 and the Vienna
Convention on Consular Relations of 1963;
have decided to upgrade the representation of the Republic of Indonesia to East
Timor in Dili to become the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia to the Democratic
Republic of East Timor, and establish the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of
East Timor to Indonesia in Jakarta.


The Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the
Democratic Republic of East Timor agree to take necessary measures to ensure the
functioning of their respective diplomatic missions in accordance with the Vienna
Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961 and the Vienna Convention on Consular
Relations of 1963, as well as international practice.
