Indon es ia, pending It s e v e ntua l accesslon_or adhes i on to the relevant
Int er n a tional conventions, s h a ll accord fort hwith the same leg a l prot ec tion
whi c h Is accorded to sound recording s of Indonesian nati onal s , to sound
recordings o f nationals of the Member S tate s of th e Eur opea n Community
which acco rd to Indon es ian sound r eco rdings the same l ega l prot ec tion which
Is acco rded to sound recordings of the ir re spec tive nationals.

France and The Ne the rlands .
It Is furth e r unde rstood that thi s protect i on will be granted, on the e ntry
Into force of the under taking referred to above , In It a ly and Spain and
that It will be granted In the United Kingdom from 26 May 1988 and in
Ir e land from 30 Jun e 1988 and may be granted In the remaining Me mber States
of the European Community at a l ater date.
It I s unde r s tood that the Republi c of In dones ia and the Commission of the
Eur o oea n Communities will tak e steps aiming at the negotiation of a
comprehens ive agreement on r ec ipr oca l protec ti on of cop yright s .
It I s under s tood that, In vi ew of the grant of the aforementione d
prot ec tion by the Republic of Indonesia to so und recordings of nationals of
Me mber States, the continuation of the examinat i on procedure Initi a t ed
unde r Council Re gulation ( EEC) 264 1/ 84 Is no lon ger justified and s hall
consequently be closed by the Commis s ion.
I would be obliged If you c ould confirm that yo u are In agreement with the
con t e nt of thi s f e tt er and th at , consequent ly, In these c ircums t ances the
examination procedur e will be c lo sed by the Comm i ss ion.

"I have the honour to Inform you that as of 1st June 1988, the Republic of
Indone s ia, pend ing Its eventual accession or adhes ion to the relevant
international conventions, sha ll accord forthwith the same legal protect/011
which Is accorded to sound recordings of Indonesian nationals, to sound
recordings of nationals of the Member States of the European Community
which accord to Indonesian sound recordings the same legal protection which
Is accorded to sound recordings of their respective nationals.

It Is recognized that, within the European Community, s uch protection of
Indonesian sound recordings Is currently accorded In Belgium, Denmark,
France and The Netherlands.
It Is further understood that this protection will be granted, on the entry
Into force of the undertaking referred to above, In Italy and Spain and
that It will be granted In the United Kingdom from 26 May 1988 and In
Ireland from jQ June 1988 and may be granted In the remaining Member States
of the European Community at a lat er date.
It Is understood that the Republic of Indonesia and the Commission of the
European Communities will take steps aim ing at the negotiation of a
comprehensive agreement on recipr ocal protection of cop yrights.

under Council Regulation (E EC) 2641181 Is no longer justified and shall
consequently be closed by the Comm i ss ion.
1 would be obliged If you could confirm that you are In agreement with the
content of this f etter and that, consequently, in these circumstances the
examination procedure will be closed by ihe Commission ."
In view of the commitment conta ined 111 the l et t er of the Republic of
Indon es ia pending Its e ventual accession or adhes ion to the relevant
International conventions, I have the honour to confirm that the Commission
of the European Community Is In agreement with the content of this fetter
and that, consequently, the cont inuat ion of the e xamination procedure
Initiated under Council Regul at ion (EEC) 264 1/84 Is no longer justified and
