JOINT DECLARATION
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA
AND THE PRIME MINISTER OF THE KINGDOM OF NORWAY
ON
CLIMATE CHANGE AND ENERGY ISSUES

1. We, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang
Yudhoyono, and the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Norway, Jens
Stoltenberg, met in Jakarta 29 March 2007.
2. We enjoyed a fruitful and comprehensive exchange of views related to
global climate change, energy issues and activities related to the Clean
Development Mechanism (COM). We recognised the need for
strengthened international cooperation to reduce emissions of greenhouse
gases and stressed the need of successful UN Climate Change
Conference of Parties in Bali on December 2007.
3. We recalled existing cooperation between our two countries, and stressed
the importance of enhanced cooperation in meeting environmental
challenges.
4. We emphasised the value of continued and intensified dialogue and
agreed to strengthen cooperation on climate change and energy issues
between our two countries. In the first phase, this cooperation will focus on

issues related to the UN Climate Change Conference of Parties in Bali on
December 2007.
5. We recognised the inter-linkage between climate change, energy security
and poverty alleviation and therefore stressed the importance of
cooperation in balancing the efforts on climate change, economic growth,
and development.
6. Furthermore, we agreed to encourage business and industries to engage
in COM cooperation and to facilitate such cooperation, inter alia, through
providing relevant information on domestic policies and regulations,
transfer of technology, and project opportunities.

7. Areas of cooperation may, inter alia, include:









Dialogue on climate change negotiations;
Climate change mitigation and adaptation;
Clean development mechanism (COM);
Reforestation;
Energy efficiency and renewable energy;
Carbon capture and storage;
Broad research science work, both related to the global climate change
negotiation process as well as on-going energy and climate science
collaboration between the two countries.
