Abstract
Self image is someone’s, particularly a woman’s attitude, either consciously or unconsciously,
toward her body which includes the perception and feeling about measurement and shape,
function, appearance, and potential of her body now and in the past. Positive self-image
occurs when she accepts the changes which occur during menopause period, while negative
self-image is caused by the rejection of the changes with occur during menopause period so
that she feels that she is rejected, alienated, helpless, and socially isolated. The objective of
the study was to identify a mother’s self-image during menopause in the Working area of
Polonia Puskesmas, Medan, with descriptive design. The data were gathered from June 7 to
July 5, 2013. The samples comprised 78 mothers above 40 years old who had experienced
menopause, taken by using accidental sampling technique. The instruments of the study were
20 questionnaires which comprised ten positive questions and ten negative questions. The
instruments of reliability test, given to 20 respondents who had fulfilled the criteria in the
Working area of Polonia Puskesmas, Medan, using KR-21 formula, indicated 0.64 (moderate
reliability). The result of the study showed that almost all respondents had positive selfimages (98,7 %).

ABSTRAK
Gambaran diri adalah sikap seseorang terhadap tubuhnya secara sadar atau tidak sadar
yang mencakup persepsi dan perasaan tentang ukuran dan bentuk, fungsi, penampilan dan
potensi tubuh saat ini dan masa lalu. Gambaran diri positif terjadi jika menerima
perubahan-perubahan yang terjadi pada masa menopause sedangkan gambaran diri
negatif diakibatkan karena menolak perubahan-perubahan yang terjadi pada masa
menopause sehingga merasa ditolak, terasing, tidak berdaya dan isolasi sosial. Penelitian
ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi gambaran diri ibu pada masa menopause di Wilayah
Kerja Puskesmas Polonia Medan dengan desain deskriptif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan
tanggal 7 Juni sampai dengan 5 Juli 2013 yang melibatkan 78 orang ibu yang berusia 40
tahun ke atas dan telah mengalami menopause dengan metode pengambilan sampel
accidental sampling. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan terdiri dari 20 pertanyaan
dimana 10 pertanyaan positif dan 10 pertanyaan negatif. Uji reliabilitas instrumen
dilakukan terhadap 20 responden yang memenuhi kriteria di Wilayah Kerja Puskesmas
Polonia Medan menggunakan rumus KR-21 adalah 0,64 (reliabilitas sedang). Hasil
penelitian menunjukkan hampir seluruh responden memiliki gambaran diri positif
(98,7%).
