The research focuses on the grammatical analysis of Indonesian-English translation on thesis summaries of the International Management Class of 2010
Jember University. The issue above mentioned is worthwhile to research because the English summary becomes one of the requirements of their graduation that should be
in well-presented one. In addition, according to Sugma 2014, as international management class students, they need to learn English better than other management
classes because they are required to have at least 425 of TOEFL score. However, the students may face some problems when they translate the summary from Indonesian
into English.
1.2 The Scope of the Study
This study deals with the translation study especially the grammatical analysis of Indonesian-English translation on the thesis summaries. This study is categorized
in the translation scope because the analysis focuses on the products which are the thesis summaries or texts. Although the study analyzes the product of English
language learners but this scope is different compared to second language acquisition. The differences are this study analyzes the product, which are the Indonesian-English
translation of thesis summaries, made by the international management class students of 2010, however, in second language acquisition SLA, it discusses about the
process of how the learners learn the second language. Furthermore, in this thesis, translation is the source where the data are obtained, while the grammatical rules
become the tool to analyze the data in proper way.
1.3 The Research Problem
The problem of this research is that the thesis summaries may contain some common grammatical mistakes such as tenses, incomplete elements, subject + verb
agreement, the use of articles, etc., which can cause misunderstanding when the
readers read the summaries. This problem needs to be analyzed so that the translation is more understandable and accurate.

a. What types of grammatical mistakes can commonly be found in the thesis
summaries of the International Management Class of 2010 Jember University? b.
How can the problems be solved according to the English grammatical rules?
1.5 The Goals of the Study
The goals of this research are: a.
To find out the types of common grammatical mistakes in the thesis summaries of the International Management Class of 2010 Jember University.
b. To analyze the problems that can be solved according to English grammatical
rules.
