The Correlation of Economic Pressure, Financial Management, and Coping Mechanism
with Plantation Women Worker’s Family Welfare in Malabar Garden, PTPN VIII Bandung,
West Java

Abstract
The general objective of this research was to study the correlation of economic
pressure, financial management and coping mechanism with family welfare. The sample

was chosen purposively. The samples were female tea pickers having under 6 years old
children and still having husband. The data, which was collected in April 2008, consists
of primary and secondary data. The primary data were economic pressure, financial
management, and coping mechanism taken by using structured questionnaire, while the
secondary data were family characteristic and family welfare taken from Sunarti (2008)’s
research titled A Study of Plantation Women Workers: Socio Economic Status, Family
Strength, Food Consumption, and Children Growth and Development.
Result of the research shows that the economic pressure of almost two third
(64.4%) sample’s families is in intermediate category. The financial management of
more than half (50.6%) families is in low category. The coping mechanism of more than
half (56.3%) families is in intermediate category. The welfare of more than two third
(66.7%) families is in intermediate category. Statistically, there is significant correlation
between financial management and family welfare (p
