MEMORANDUM
OF UNDERSTANDING
BETWEEN
THE GOVERNMENT
OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA
AND
THE GOVERNMENT OF THE KINGDOM OF THE NETHERLANDS
CONCERNING
AN EXCHANGE PROGRAMME OF PROFESSORS IN ECONOMICS
A.
on the occasion of the official visit of H.E. R.F.M. Lubbers,
Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and H.E. H.
van den Broek, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of
the Netherlands, the establishment of an exchange programme
of professors in economics was agreed upon by the Indonesian
and Netherlands side.
In view of the ongoing successful
development of the Indonesian economy, which is reviewed
annually during the meeting of the Inter-Governmental Group
on Indonesia, chaired by the Netherlands' Minister for Development Co-operation, the programme will focus on the development
processes of the newly industrializing countries and especially
on the ccnstraints in the future development of the Indonesian
economy.
B.
The exchange programme could contribute to the mutual understanding and knowledge of development processes. The
Indonesian experiences with the building of a modern, industrial
state, without losing its cultural identity, would
greatly
benefit the academic research in the field of development
economics in the Netherlands. The programme will illustrate
'
simultaneously the longtime interest in and the support of the
development process of Indonesia by the Netherlands.

c.
The programme is scheduled to commence in 1989 for a five year
period on the basis of a project document, to be. approved by
the authorities ofi both countries in accordance with the laws,
regulations and procedures in their respective countries.
D.
The funds for the exchange programme will b: made ｡ｶｩｬ
ｾ ｬ･＠
by the Netherlands' Minister for Development Co-uperation in
the framework of the Sector Programme for Education and
Research, to a maximum of one million guilders on a grant
basis, not excluding additional funding by others.
