with the flow of air or water. Most kinds of dunes are longer on the windward side where the sand is pushed up by the dune and have a shorter "slip face" in the lee of the wind. The trough between dunes is called a slack. A "dune field" is an area covered by extensive sand dunes. Large dune fields are known as ergs.

Some coastal areas have one or more sets of dunes running parallel to the shoreline directly inland from the beach. In most cases, the dunes are important in protecting the land against potential ravages by storm waves from the sea. Although the most widely distributed dunes are those associated with coastal regions, the largest complexes of dunes are found inland in dry regions and associated with ancient lake or sea beds.

Dunes can form under the action of water flow (fluvial processes), and on sand or gravel beds of rivers, estuaries and the sea-bed.

The following text is for questions number 41 to 43.

Mosquitoes are members of a family of nematocerid flies. Most species of mosquitoes are harmless. However, several species carry and transmit diseases such as malaria, yellow fever, and dengue fever to human and other animals.

The mosquito’s body consists of head, thorax, and abdomen. The round head has a long proboscis which it uses to suck the blood from the human or animal. Like flies, mosquito’s feet are equipped with claws for attaching to host’s skin .

Mosquitoes go through four stages in their lifecycles. They include egg, larva, pupa, and adult phases. These stages usually last 5 to 14 days, depending on the species and temperature. Eggs hatch to become larvae, which grow until they are able to change into pupae. The adult mosquito emerges from the mature pupa as it floats at the water surface.

Although some mosquitoes feed on blood, most of them eat nectar. The males do not drink blood from animals or humans. Beside feeding on nectar, the females have to drink blood to get protein from it. It is used to make eggs mature. They can’t form this vital component on their own, so blood is used. Some mosquitoes don’t require blood to lay eggs. They prey on the larvae of other mosquitoes.
