ABSTRACT
The title of this research is “Deixis Used in The Spiderwick Chronicles
Movie”, it discussed the phenomenon of deixis use. This research investigated
types of deixis that used in "The Spiderwick Chronicles Movie and the frequency
of using it. This research investigated types of deixis that used in "The Spiderwick
Chronicles Movie and the frequency of using it.
The writer collected the data from the movie script of "The Spiderwick
Chronicles". The data was classified based on the types according to Levinson
Theory (1983) then analyze the frequency the using of deixis by used quantitative
method. To make it focus, the scope of discussion is dialogue some characters in
this movie, they are: Jared, Simon, Mallory and the Mom.
The analysis showed that (1) there are five types of deixis, they are person
deixis, place deixis, time deixis, discourse deixis and social deixis. (2) The
frequency of deixis as follows : the person deixis was used 362 times or (81,88%),
the second type is social deixis, it is used 49 times or (11,08%). The third is place
deixis, it was used 14 times or (3,16%), the fourth is discourse deixis, it was used
9 times or (2,03%) and the last is time deixis, it was used 8 times or (1,80%).
