JOINT PRESS STATEMENT

The Chief of the Philippine National Police and the Chief of the
Indonesian National Police met in Manila on 21 June 2005, on the sidelines
of the official visit of the President of Indonesia to the Philippines.
Both sides agreed to follow-up the Agreed Minutes of the Third
.Meeting of the Indonesia-Philippines · Joint Commission for Bilateral
Cooperation, which was held in Manila on 20-21 December 2002, in
particular Item Numbers 18, 19 and 20, as well as the Joint Communique
of the 25th ASEAN Chiefs of .Pqlice Conference held at Bali, Indonesia on
16-20 May 2005, where the; following concerns of mutual interest were
discussed1 namely:

In order to implement the above mentioned agreements, the Chief
of the Philippine National Police and the Chief of the Indonesian National
Police underscore the . impOrtance to expedite the cooperation at the
regional level of police from both sides under the framework of
Memorandum of Cooperation.

In this connection, the regiQnal police from both sides will adopt
some mechanisms for coordination on law enforcement, among other
things:

Enhancement of existing mechanism of cooperation for both
parties in preventing and suppressing terrorist activities;

2.


Regular exchange of information on fugitives;

Implementation of the ASEANAPOL Database System;

Coordination on apprehension as well as interrogation of

apprehended suspected criminals and terrorists;
Exchange of visits of police authorities;
Sharing· of technical and operational expertise.

sides agreed to establish working groups to workout the details of the Memorandum of Cooperation.


The Memorandum of Cooperation will be signed within due course
agreed by both sides.
