JOINT DEClARATION
BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA
AND
THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA
ON ENHANCING BilATERAL CONSULTATIONS

Determined to further strengthen relations between the Republic of Indonesia and
Canada, in order to further enhance mutual understanding bilateral cooperation;
Referring to the Joint Declaration by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and
the Government of Canada on the Establishment of a Bilateral Consultative Forum;
The two Governments have agreed as follows:
1. The Indonesia - Canada Bilateral Consultative Forum which currently meet at the
level of the Senior Officials, hereinafter referred to as "the Forum", will meet at the
level of Ministers of Foreign Affairs on an annual basis, or as appropriate;

2. The Forum will consider bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest
as well as bilateral, regional or international issues of common concerns;


3. The Forum will have meetings alternately in Indonesia and in Canada or as
appropriate. The agenda, the dates and duration as well as the venue of each
meeting will be communicated through diplomatic channels;

4. The Forum will consider the following topics but not limited to, as determined by the
Ministers:

4.1. Bilateral
a. Pursuing opportunities for enhancing cooperation on the issue of bilateral
relation to address transnational challenges and of contemporary international
and political issues of common concerns. Issues may include rule of law,
human rights, interfaith issues and good governance;
b. Taking further steps in enhancing friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation
between the two countries by deepening and widening economic, trade and
investment ties, and promote cultural exchanges as well as people to people
interaction;

4.2. Regional
Deepening efforts to enhance cooperation within ASEAN , including its Summit,

functional and specialized bodies, on political, economic, trade and security
issues, as well as within other relevant regional fora.
4.3. International
Strengthening consultations on global issues, such as international
governance, activities to counter international terrorism, transnational crime
and illegal drug trafficking, internet and cyber challenges, International human
rights including the rights of women and girls, counter-proliferation, arms
control and disarmament, natural disaster preparedness, risk reduction and
response, conflict prevention, stabilization and post-conflict rehabilitation .
5. The established dialogues to discuss specific areas of common interest namely
Human Rights Dialogue, Economic Dialogue and Interfaith Dialogue will be
continued as agreed upon by the two Governments. Other dialogues may be
established in order to discuss other specific areas of common interest.
