ABSTRACT

MARNIDA ULI LUBIS : The Growth and Development of Mangrove’s Root
Seedlings Ceriops tagal (Perr.) C.B.Rob under Different Salinity. Supervised by
MOHAMMAD BASYUNI and BUDI UTOMO.

The deforestation of mangrove caused by human activities to the effects
the composition of mangrove forest stands it is necessary for mangrove
rehabilitation to restore mangrove ecosystem. The Growth and root development
of mangrove seedlings Ceriops tagal (Perr.) C.B.Rob in different salinity was
studied in the greenhouse, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatera Utara,
started from 22nd May until 22nd November 2015. This study was aimed at
determining the level of seedling growth and root development in C. tagal
seedlings in different salinity.
This research use the completely random design (CRD) with 5 treatment,
namely 0%, 0,5%, 1,5%, 2%, and 3% for 10 replication. The best result showed
that growth and seedlings development was obtained at 0,5% salinity, high
growth of seedlings at 0,5%, diameter at 0,5%, number of leaf at 0,5%, leaf area
at 0,5%, thick leaves at 0,5%, number of root at 0,5%, length roots at 2%, root

diameter at 0,5%, the water content of the root 0%, the water content of the shoot
0,5%, and the ratio of root and shoot at 0,5%.

Kerusakan hutan mangrove yang disebabkan oleh aktivitas manusia
mengakibatkan komposisi tegakan hutan mangrove menjadi menurun sehingga di

perlukan kegiatan rehabilitasi hutan mangrove untuk memperbaiki ekosistem
hutan mangrove. Penelitian Pertumbuhan dan perkembangan akar semai
mangrove sejati Ceriops tagal (Perr.) C.B.Rob pada berbagai salinitas ini diteliti
di rumah kaca, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Sumatera Utara mulai 22 Mei
sampai 22 November 2015. Penelitian ini berjutuan untuk mengetahui tingkat
pertumbuhan semai dan perkembangan akar C. tagal tehadap berbagai konsentrasi
salinitas.
Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) nonfaktorial dengan 5 perlakuan, yaitu salinitas (0%, 0,5%, 1%, 2%, dan 3%) dan di
ulang sebanyak 10 ulangan. Hasil pertumbuhan dan pekembangan terbaik yaitu
pada konsentrasi salinitas 0,5%, pertumbuhan tinggi semai pada konsentasi
salinitas 0,5%, diameter semai 0,5%, jumlah daun 0,5%, luas daun 0,5%, tebal
daun 0,5%, jumlah akar 0,5%, panjang akar 2%, diameter akar 0,5%, kadar air
akar 0%, kadar air tajuk 0,5%, dan ratio akar dan tajuk 0,5%.
