JOINT STATEMENT
BETWEEN THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA
AND THE REPUBLIC OF THE PH lLIPPTNES
CONCERNING
THE DELIMITATION OF THE CONTINENTAL SHELF BOUNDARY
I. Mini ster for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. DR. R.M.
Marty M. Natalegawa and Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the
Philippines, H.E. A lbert F. De l Rosario, reiterated their earlier commitment in
their Declaration s igned on 8 March 2011 "on the delimitation of the two
countries' maritime entitlements under the J982 United Nations Convention on
the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS)."
2. Havi ng signed the "Agreement between the Government of the Republic of
Indonesia and the Government of the Republic of the Philippines Concerning
the Delimitation of the Exclusive Economic Zone Boundary" on 23 May 20 14,
both Ministers reiterated their full intention to pursue the convening of the
Joi nt Technical Team on Maritime Boundary Delim itation between the
Republic of Indonesia and the Republ ic of the Philippines to commence early
di scussions on the overlapping continental shelf of the two archipelagic states.
3. The two Ministers underscored the importance of the relevant 1982 UNCLOS
provision wh ich states that the continenta l shelf between States with opposite
or adjacent coasts shall be effected by agreement on the bas is o f international
law in orderJ:a..ach ieve an equitable solution.
