MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
BETWEEN
STATE MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT
OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA
AND
MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT
OF THE HASHEMITE KINGDOM OF JORDAN
ON ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND NATURAL RESOURCES
CONSERVATION COOPERATION
The State Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ministry
of Environment of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, hereinafter referred to as
"the Parties";
Desiring to further develop cooperation in environmental protection and nature
conservation ;
Intending to develop and maintain environmental protection, environmental
preservation and pollution abatement in general;
Considering the importance of health and well being of their people;
Recognizing the need for conservation of natural resources and preservation of
biodiversity in both countries for the benefit and enjoyment of present and future
generations;
Pursuant to the prevailing laws and regulations in their respective countries;
Have agreed as follows:
ARTICLE I
OBJECTIVE
The objective of this MOU is to promote cooperation in the field of environmental
protection and conservation of natural resources in both countries.
ARTICLE II
SCOPE OF COOPERATION
The Parties agreed to fully cooperate in the under mentioned fields:
1. Improvement of environmental management including environmental impact
assessment, environmental risk assessment, environmental auditing,
environmental valuation and environmental management system;
2. Conservation of natural resources and biodiversity protection in marine and
coastal areas;
3. Pollution control and hazardous materials and waste management;
4. Combating desertification;
5. Capacity building in environmental legislation and law enforcement;
6. Implementation of economic instruments including environmental incentives;
7. Application of best available technology;
8. Application and monitoring of environmental standards;
9. Emergency preparedness and response procedures;
10. Environmental education;
11 . Public awareness and information exchange;
12. Promoting joint environmental development projects through United Nations
Organizations and global activities.
ARTICLE Ill
FUNDING
1. Unless otherwise agreed, each Party shall provide adequate resources to
carry out its own responsibilities under this MOU. Both Parties acknowledged
the importance of the availability of the environmental funds.
2. The Parties shall strive to attract funds for financing cooperative projects in
the field of environment.
ARTICLE IV
JOINT COMMITTEE
In order to promote cooperation in the implementation of this MOU , the Parties
shall establish a Joint Committee on Environmental Protection and Natural
Resources Conservation , which task shall be:
1. To draw up work program and define activities under this MOU concerning
specific areas of cooperation;
2. To review the current and future activities under this MOU;
3. To assess the state, fruits of current and future cooperation;

The Joint Committee shall meet once a year alternately in Indonesia and Jordan
and the Parties will designate their representatives for the Joir.t Committee .

ARTICLE V
SETTLEMENT OF DISPUTE
Any disputes between the Parties concerning the implementation of this MOU
shall be settled amicably through consultations and/ or negotiations.
ARTICLE VI
AMENDMENT
This MOU shall be amended or revised and must be submitted in writing, by
mutual consent, of the Parties.
ARTICLE VII
ENTRY INTO FORCE, DURATION, AND TERMINATION
1. This MOU shall enter into force 30 (thirty) days after its signing in accordance
with the internal procedures of the Parties.
2. This MOU shall remain valid for a period of five years. Its validity shall be
extended for successive periods of five years unless terminated by either
Party giving a six month written notice to the other Party.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the undersigned , being duly authorized thereto by their
respective Governments, have signed this MOU .
Done in Jakarta, on eighteen day of January in the year two thousand and six in
two original copies in English language. Both texts are being equally authentic.
