Kajian Simbol Pada Arsitektur Rumah Tradisional Karo di Desa Lingga Kabupaten Karo

ABSTRAK
Sumatera Utara merupakan salah satu provinsi di Indonesia yang memiliki
bermacam-macam rumah tradisional. Tiap suku memiliki tujuan untuk
menciptakan bangunan yang menyelaraskan dengan lingkungan sekitarnya,
seperti keadaan alam dan manusia yang menghuni lingkungan sekitar tersebut.
Seiring dengan berkembangnya zaman, rumah tradisional semakin berkurang
jumlahnya. Seperti pada Desa Lingga di Kabupaten Karo yang hanya tinggal
memiliki 2 rumah tradisional. Maka dari itu diperlukan penelitian mengenai kajian
simbol rumah tradisional Karo Di Desa Lingga tersebut. Tujuan penelitian yaitu
mengetahui simbol dan pengaruh simbol tersebut terhadap masyarakat yang masih
menempati rumah tradisional tersebut. Penelitian menggunakan metode penelitian
deskriptif serta metode pengumpulan data melalui wawancara dan observasi yang
dilakukan untuk memperoleh informasi dari penghuni rumah tradisional dan
mendapatkan foto secara langsung keadaan rumah pada saat penelitian. Dari
penelitian diperoleh bahwa simbol pada rumah tradisional Karo memiliki arti dan
fungsi serta ciri khas sendiri. Penghuni rumah tradisional di Desa Lingga masih
ada yang mempertahankan arti serta fungsi dari elemen, struktur dan fungsi ruang
pada rumah tradisional Karo di Desa Lingga tersebut.

ABSTRACT
North Sumatra is one of the provinces in Indonesia which has an assortment of
traditional houses. Each ethnic has the goal of creating buildings that
harmonize with the surrounding environment, such as the state of nature and
humans that inhabit the surrounding environment, such as the state of nature

of the times, the traditional home of diminishing in number. As in Lingga
village in Karo who only have 2 traditional houses. Therefore necessary
research on the study of symbols traditional home Karo In the Lingga village.
The purpose of research is to know the symbols and the effect of such symbols
communities that still occupy the traditional home. Research using descriptive
research method and the method of collecting data through interviews and
observations conducted to obtain information from traditional inhabitants of
the house and get photos directly state of the house at the time of the study.
The research result shows that the symbols on Karo traditional house has a
meaning and function as well as its own characteristics. Occupants of
traditional houses in the village of Lingga still maintaining the meaning and

function of the elements, the structure and function of space in traditional
houses of the Karo in Lingga village.
