Joint Statement
Between
the Minister of Communication and Information Technology
of the Republic of Indonesia
and
the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan
on
the Cooperation in Information and Communications Technology
January 10, 2007

The Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan and the
Minister of Communication and Information Technology of the Republic
of Indonesia (hereinafter referred to as "the Ministers") exchanged views
on cooperation in the field of information and communications technology
(hereinafter referred to as "ICT") during the meeting on January 10, 2007
in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The two Ministers confirmed that ICT is a major driving force in
promoting sustainable economic growth and social development,
improving quality of life, helping people in achieving their full potential
and maintaining cultural diversity.

Two Ministers, recognizing such positive impacts of the cooperation,
expressed their wish to promote more intensive efforts to make further
use of ICT at the national as well as the regional level in development of
a-government, management of natural disasters, enhancement of media
industry and elimination of digital divide.
Two Ministers also confirmed that it was necessary to strengthen , within
their respective competence, cooperative relations between Japan and
the Republic of Indonesia in the field of ICT, including, among others,
promotion of the measures listed in the Asia Broadband Program .
Taking account of the institutional reorganization of the ICT
administration in Indonesia as well as of the Asia Broadband Program
revised in August, 2006, two Ministers decided to announce the Joint
Statement, particularly focusing on the following cooperation :

- Support for development of ICT infrastructure
- Support for development of e-government, e-business, e-learning by
training officials, dispatch of experts, etc,
- Support for human resources development through training and
workshop on ICT, production of content,
- Promotion of joint research and development, and

- Holding an international seminar, forum , conference, workshop, etc. in
the following areas,
> ICT policies, laws and regulations
> Next Generation Network
> Technologies targeted at narrowing the digital divide and diffusion
of broadband,
> Technologies for Mobile Communications
> Broadcasting
The Ministers finally noted that the cooperation should be encouraged
and developed among government agencies, research institutions,
private companies and other relevant bodies in each country.
