a Pre-test Pre-test was applied for experimental class and control class and it was
conducted in the first meeting before the technique of story mapping was given by the writer. The pre-test consisted of 25 multiple choice questions. There are
several narrative text passages in the test and the students had to answer the questions based on the text.
b Post-test Post-test was also applied for both classes and it was conducted after the
treatments were given. The purpose of post-test is to measure the effectiveness of story mapping technique on students’ reading comprehension of narrative
text by lo oking at students’ post-test score. The test used in this post-test was
multiple choice which consisted of 25 numbers of question. The test in pre-test and post-test have the same difficulty level.
2. Observation
Observation is one of data collection techniques which was used by the writer. The purpose is to get the preliminary data. The writer observed
respondents ’ activities and the process of teaching and learning activity to identify
the problems which occur in the classroom before applying the technique for her research.
3. Interview
Moreover, the writer did an unstructured interview with the English teacher. The aim is to know the classroom situation,
the students’ characteristics, the problems in reading comprehension
, and the teacher’s thought about the story mapping technique to solve problems in reading narrative text. Not only with the
teacher, but the writer also did interview with the students. The purpose of interview the students is to know what the problems the students usually find
when they are reading the narrative text.
G. Trustworthiness of the Research
1. Normality Test
Before calculating the value of t-test using parametric statistics to measure hypothesis, the writer had to analyze the normality and homogeneity of the data.
The calculation of normality was needed to know whether the data has been normally distributed or not. The writer used SPSS v.22 by looking at the
Lilliefors formula to test the normality. In this formula, the data was transformed into the basic value. The maximum dispute T got from the calculation must be
in absolute value +. The result of normality can be seen by comparing the value of T
max
to T
table
. The criterion of hypothesis is:
H

: T

2. Homogeneity Test
Then, after getting the normality of the data, the next step was calculating the homogeneity of data. The purpose of this calculation was to see whether the
data in both classes were homogenous or not. The criteria of the test:
α = 0.05 H
: F
1- αn1-1
F F
12α n1-1n2-1
H

: F F
12α v1,v2
H. Technique of Data Analysis
To know the effectiveness of story mapping technique in reading comprehension, the writer used statistics analysis with the formula of t-test to
determine the final calculation. It is to measure the significance of the mean post-
