4.1.2.2.1 Descriptive Statistics of Respondent’s Opinions on the Designed Materials

The data was obtained by distributing questionnaires to the respondents. The respondents would give their opinion in the form of a score for the items, opinions and suggestions in the last part of the questionnaire. The respondents 75 would give their opinions on the materials by giving a score ranging from 1-5. They had chosen one of the five points of agreement. The numbers and the degree of agreement were formulated that score 1, means the respondents strongly disagree with the statement. This also means that the designed materials were very bad. Score 2, means the respondents disagree with the statement. This also means that the designed materials were bad. Score 3, means that the respondents have doubt about the statement. This also means that the designed materials were not bad. Score 4, means that the respondents are agreeing with the statement. This also means that the designed materials were good. Score 5, means that the respondents strongly agree with the statement. This also means that the designed materials were very good. The descriptive statistics of the 25 respondent’s opinion on the designed materials of the formulation stated in chapter 3, the writer found 4.80, as the mean. It means that the respondents agreed with the statements, which means that the materials were good, which also means that the materials already fit the learner’s needs as concierge personnel. Nevertheless, the revision still needed to be improved for a final designed material. That is why, below, the respondents gave comments and suggestions on the designed materials. See the appendix on table 4.9, the descriptive statistics of the respondent’s opinion on the designed materials 76

4.1.2.2.2 The Respondents’ Comments and Suggestions on the Designed Materials

Respondents also gave their contribution in the form of comments, suggestions and opinions on the designed materials. It would help the researcher to improve and make final revision of the designed materials. The detailed comments and suggestions are presented as follows: Generally, all respondents agreed that the designed materials were well- designed; creative, interesting, potential materials, eye-catching layout, full of important points to develop Javanese or local cultures. It is full of real pictures of the real object, so that the learners will not find it difficult or bored in learning something. It is appropriate to apply to the teaching of English for concierge personnel, because all the materials challenge the concierge personnel to practice English communicatively. However, some suggestions from respondents that should be considered in improving the designed materials are as follow: 1. Grammar and spelling The respondents suggested checking incorrect written construction or spelling on the designed materials. 2. Speaking Activities It would be better if in speaking activities, the designer add more oral presentation such as; role-play, discussion and presentation. 3. Vocabulary Banks The designer has to emphasize more on ‘magic words’ of a concierge, it means polite words. The designer has to put more songs in each unit. 77 4. Layout and pictures The designer has to make the pictures bigger, so that it would be clearer and put more pictures related to Amanjiwo’ property.
