Kinds of Plot Based on the Criterion of Time’s Order Kinds of Plot Based on the Criterion of Number Kinds of Plot Based on the Criterion of Content

Plot is events shown in a story which is not simple, because the author arranges them according to causality. Events and conflics usually have close relation. They can cause each other; even conflict truthfully is event. There are certain events that can cause conflict. On the other hands, another event can happen as the result of conflict happened. According to Stanton in the book Shape of Fiction p. 127: Climax is when conflict had reached the level of the highest intensity, and it cannot be avoided. It means that climax must happen because it is the meeting point between two and more situations which are contrary and it decides how the problem will be solved. The plot of a story contains of time’s order; either it is given explicitly and implicitly. Therefore, there are earlier events, next event and the ending in a story. However, the plot in a fiction seldom serves event’s order chronologically and harmoniously, but it can be started and ended by whatever events. So that, the earlier step must not be at the beginning story or text, but it can be whatever the author wants. According to Burhan Nurgiantoro in his book “Teori Pengkajian Fiksi” 1998 p. 152-158: In literary work, there are several kinds of plot based on different criteria:

3.2.1 Kinds of Plot Based on the Criterion of Time’s Order

On the kind criterion of times order plot is devided in three kinds. First is progressive plot. Progressive plot is if the event is chronologically that means the story start from the earlier step rising, conflict, and climax and finally is solution. Second is flash back plot. Flashback plot is the event is not chronologically, the story start form the earlier but maybe also from middle or in last step. Third is mixed between progressive plot and flashback plot.

3.2.2 Kinds of Plot Based on the Criterion of Number

Beside plot has the criterion of times order plot has the criterion of number that means the number of plot in story, perhaps novel has one plot, it is a single plot but perhaps it has more than one plot as well and it is called sub plot. Fiction which has single plot always just develops only by telling a main character who is a protagonist, generally the story only follow the life of the character problem and conflicts that he go. This plot is always s used in this work, but it is are only told if they related to the main character. The other side, the sub-develops- a story by telling more one plot, its structure contains main plot, several additional plot sub- plot based on the order of importance and the role of character in the story.

3.2.3 Kinds of Plot Based on the Criterion of Content

According to Burhan Nurgiantoro in the book Teori Pengkajian Fiksi 1998 p. 152- 158: Friedman makes these plot into three i.e: plot fortune, plot of character, and plot of thought The plot of fortune connects with the story telling one the luck and the fortune of main character in the novel. Friedman makes this plot into six kinds such as action plot, platonic plot, tragic plot, punitive plot, and admiration plot. The plot of character tends to the importance of character being the focus of the attention. The plot of character is more attentive to character’s condition that the events. This plot is differentiated into maturing plot, reforming plot, testing plot and generating plot. The plot of thought telling something becomes thinking martial, willingness feeling obsession and etc that become the problem life and human lives.
