Background of Study The Scope of Writing

1. INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of Study

“Novel is a story in prose long enough to fill one or more volumes, about either imaginary or historical people” AS Hornby; 1974: 575. This statement usually tells people that the novel is about fictional and unfictional story. The novel is not merely use for entertain someone, but it can provide understanding, messages and conveys some of values of human life namely ethics, spirit, collection, and culture values. In addition, the novel can give the motivation, satisfaction, self-improvement and building a better human being. The novel is one of literary work which describes the events occurred in the world, a model of life idealized, imaginary which are described in intrinsic elements namaely theme, plot, setting, character and point of view. Therefore, I choose the novel written by Agatha Christie in which the topic is Postern of Fate. The novel tells about the mystery of past murdered which is interesting in discussing, it because the story need the capability of thinking everyone to know the mystery of the past murdered and also the story is related to real life. In this paper will analyze the intrinsic elements 1.2 theme, plot, setting, character and point of view. There are two main purposes in writing this paper. The Objective Study   To describe the intrinsic elements of i.e which element are theme, plot, point of view, characterization and setting To analyze the influence of intrinsic elements in the story.

1.3 The Scope of Writing

1.4 Actually, there are so many aspects which can be seen in the novel. Those are: ethics, spirit, collection, psychology, education, cultural, social, theme, plot, setting, character and point of view. But, the writer wants to limits his study and will analysis about theme, plot, setting, character and point of view. In writing this paper the writer uses a method of research i.e library research. Besides she also finds the data related to the topic written from the internet. Then the data are identified, categorized and analyzed. The Method of Writing
