CHAPTER V CONCLUSION, IMPLICATION, AND SUGGESTIONS
This chapter is the conclusion of the study. It is aimed to conclude the answers of problem formulations. Furthermore, this chapter is divided into three
parts. Those are the conclusions of the study, implication of the study and suggestions. Implication provides ideas on the result of the study which are
related to education in general. Suggestions are for the future research related to the study.
A. Conclusions
Having analyzed the meaning of struggle from the Bennet family in chapter IV, the writer has come to the conclusion of the study. This study deals
with the meaning of struggle and it has two formulated problem . Those are “How
are the Bennets and their life problems descr ibed in the novel?” and “What are the
meanings of the Bennets’ struggles in solving their life problems?” Then, the
writer directly provides the answers from those formulated problem as the conclusion of the study.
The first answer is about the description of the Bennets and their life problems in the novel. In the novel, Mr. Bennet is described as a wise and patient
man who never forces his orders to his daughters, who also has a good sense of humor, and who is fond of many books. Mrs. Bennet is described as a woman
who has weak understanding and strict mind. She is very obsessed to marry off
41 her daughters to rich men. Both of them are never concerned with the education or
morality of their daughters. Jane Bennet is beautiful and she cannot judge anyone as a bad person.
Elizabeth Bennet is good-looking and she has pride in her ability to notice the truth of situations and to notice
people’s characters. Mary Bennet is strangely solemn and her character is almost the same as her father. Catherine Bennet seems
to have little personality and she is Lydia ’s shadow. Lydia Bennet is foolish and
she is really careless in every situation. In the novel, the Bennet family is described as a family who has a lot of
conflicts with the society. Three characters that have major conflicts and need to deal with those conflicts are Jane Bennet, Elizabeth Bennet, and the Bennet family
itself. Jane deals with her love story with Mr. Bingley. It is told that people from high class society, always try to make them separate. Meanwhile, Elizabeth has to
face the major conflict between herself and Mr. Darcy. The conflict occurs because of their pride and prejudices. Then, the Bennet family has to face the
serious conflict related to Mr. Wickham ’s running away with Lydia Bennet.
Those conflicts make Jane, Elizabeth and the Bennet family struggle to solve their conflicts. From the description of the Bennet family and their life
problems in the novel, the writer goes to the answer of the second formulated problem. It deals with the meanings of
the Bennets’ struggles from Jane, Elizabeth and the Bennet family.
Having analyzed the meanings of struggles from the Bennet family ’s life
problems, the writer got three meanings of struggles. As described in chapter IV,
42 there are two ways to seek the meanings of struggles. Those are the literal
meaning the surface meaning and the true meaning the deeper meaning. The first meaning of struggle is from the literal meaning of Jane’s
struggle. Jane’s struggle is that she maintains her feeling and does not give up although the high class people oppress her, in order to maintain their control of
low class and to maintain their high class status. The true meaning of Jane’s
struggle is Jane’s social action which involves harmony and conflict, love and hatred, and struggles over the oppression to maintain her feeling to the man that
she loves. The second meaning is from the literal meaning o f Elizabeth’s struggle.
Elizabeth ’s struggle is that she has to stay strong when high class people threaten
her badly and she needs to keep seeking the truth until she finds the right answers to solve her conflicts. The
true meaning of Elizabeth’s struggle is that she does not want to be under-controlled by the powerful people in the society and that she
can overcome her conflicts in the right ways. The literal meaning of the Bennet family
’s struggle is the fact that a conflict that cannot be solved without a help from family takes trust and faith. The true meaning of the Bennet family
’s struggle is the power to make the powerless obey them and the power of family in
the society to solve the conflict together. Struggle cannot be done if they do not have the power to survive and a will to stay strong.
In conclusion, the writer could say that the Bennets can show that they can survive from the high class people’s oppressions, and they do their best to solve
their conflicts. In real world, people will always face conflicts in their lives. It could deal with the society, money, or social classes. However, when people face
43 conflicts, they will always try to solve the conflicts. The Bennet family has
shown, in the novel, their struggles in every conflict that they have. It is not easy to face and solve every conflict that they have, but if they do not do their best to
solve it, then it will never be solved. The meaning of struggle is determined by the ways someone overcome his conflicts.
B. Implications
