The Data Analysis RESEARCH FINDINGS

f. 1. If t t t : There is an effectiveness of Collaborative Learning between variables X and variable Y. It means the null hypothesis H is rejected and the alternative hypothesis Ha is accepted. 2. If t t t : There is no effectiveness of Collaborative Learning between variables X and variable Y. It means the null hypothesis H is accepted and the alternative hypothesis Ha is rejected.

C. The Data Interpretation

Based on the result of calculation presented previously, it is known that the result of t is 5.57, the degrees of freedom is 24 obtained from N-1 = 25-1. In this paper, the writer used the degree of significance of 5 = 2.06. Comparing t with each score of the degree significance, the result is 5.57 2.06. Since t score in table is higher than t t score obtained from the result of calculating, the alternative hypothesis Ha is accepted and the null hypothesis H is rejected. As Sudijono stated that if the result of calculation t t observation is higher than t t t table, so the null hypothesis H is rejected. It means the alternative hypothesis Ha is accepted. Meanwhile, if the result of calculation t t observation is lower than t t t table, so the null hypothesis H is accepted. It means the alternative hypothesis Ha is rejected. 1 From the explanation above and refers to the Minimum Mastery Criterion Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal for English subject is 65, the writer can see that using collaborative learning towards studen ts’ ability in reading is quite success than without collaborative learning. It can be see n from the students’ scores before implementing collaborative learning and after implementing collaborative learning. Before implementing the treatment, there are 12 students who have reached and passed the Minimum Mastery Criterion, meanwhile 13 students have not reached it. After implementing the treatment, there are 17 students who have 1 Anas Sudijono. Pengantar Statistik Pendidikan. Jakarta: Raja Grafindo Persada. 2008. p. 308. reached and passed the Minimum Mastery Criterion, meanwhile 8 students have not reached it. Actually, all students’ scores have increased, although there are still some students have not reached the Minimum Mastery Criterion. For example, the students’ scores number 4, 7, 14, and 21. Before implementing the treatment, their scores are 35, 50, 50, and 45. After implementing the treatment, their scores are 40, 60, 55, and 60. Their scores have increased as many as 5, 10, 5, and 15. It means that their scores get good enough changing. Unfortunately, their scores have not reached the Minimum Mastery Criterion. Based on the students’ scores after using collaborative learning in reading, it proved that collaborative learning is important for students’ achievement in reading ability. 42

CHAPTER V CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

A. Conclusion

Ba sed on the students’ progress of the research stated, the writer concludes that using Collaborative Learning in improving students’ ability in reading descriptive text can be an alternative way to achieve the reading ability at the seventh grade students of SMP Pelita Harapan. The fact can be seen from the students’ pre-test and post-test scores which is the sum of pre- test is 1455 and the sum of post-test is 1685. It means that the gained score between both test scores is 230. Then, before implementing the treatment, the lowest pre-test score is 35 and the highest pre-test score is 75. After implementing the treatment, the lowest post-test score is 40 and the highest post-test score is 85. Based on the data description above, it shows good progress on the students’ reading ability. Based on the results of the data analysis by using Collaborative Learning, it shows that t t observation = 5.57 is higher than t t t table = 2.06. It means that Collaborative Learning creates an effectiveness in improving students’ ability in reading descriptive text between before and after implementing the treatment.

B. Suggestion

The suggestions below are designed to help students and teachers set up Collaborative Learning in teaching learning process. Dealing with the conclusion, the writer would like to suggest as follow: 1. Collaborative learning can be implemented in teaching learning process well. 2. Students need to share their own information to others which can motivate them in learning process. By using Collaborative Learning, students can get good progress in reading ability. 3. Students can know how their friends’ characteristic in Collaborative Learning. 4. Teachers should handle the situation in the classroom when Collaborative Learning is implemented. It is likely to be noisy and lose control.
