2.2 Karo People Ethnic Group
Indonesia has more than thirty seven provinces states, and one of them is North Sumatera. North Sumatera has 25 distinctive regencies. One of the those

regencies is called Karo Regency whose inhabitants are referred to as the Karo people. The Karo ethnic group is one of the thousands of different ethnic groups
in Indonesia. The number of Karonese population is apporoximately two million people. In addition to the Karonese people who live in the regency of Karo, there
are also Karonese ethnic groups who live in parts of six other regencies. The number of Karonese people who live outside the Karo Regency is more than the
number who live in the Karo Regency it self. The whole Karo people consist of three different status groups which are
determined by the inter-relationship between five surnames as it is shown in this diagram below.
