Brown 2004 states that speaking ability is observable based on the listening skills of the listeners. It means that being good listeners is the start of good speakers. The way the students learn, then, should pay attention to their English teachers or other learners before they practice their English speaking ability. He feels that his English speaking ability is not good enough because he does not understand the materials sometimes. Therefore he is not optimistic to get good scores in speaking tests. From the description, I note that there is correlation between AR’s learning styles, his English speaking ability, and academic performance. Since he does not have enough interest in English and he applies the same learning style for all English skills, he cannot get good result in academic performance. Based on the viewpoints of BA who represented medium-achiever of speaking ability, she seems to be forced to study in Vocational High School at first. Nevertheless, she changes her mind since she felt that Vocational High School has good service. She thinks that English is hard subject because she rarely understands the subject. When she follows English subject at the class, her mood is not constant caused by her psychological condition before and during the lesson. The English speaking activities she likes are watching movie and singing since she feels these activities can help her to increase her English pronunciation mastery. Her past showing her bad marks in English subjects make him unconfident in studying English. But because she likes to sing, then she can learn English and start enjoying English lesson from English songs. About her academic performance score, she is not sure. From the description, I note that there is correlation between BA ’s learning styles, her English speaking ability, and academic performance. At least, she has some interest in English so that she can get better academic performance scores compared to her previous scores. 117 Based on the viewpoints of DA who represented high-achiever of speaking ability, the recent Vocational High School she belongs to is not her first option since she likes to study in other Vocational High School. She feels that English subject is important for communication. Therefore, she is always excited to follow English subject. She likes quiz and discussion for the learning methods because she can interact with other students. She also feels that she has quite good English speaking ability so that she hopes she can get good scores in her academic performance. From the description, I can express that there is correlation between DA ’s learning styles, her English speaking ability, and academic performance. She has great interest in English subjects and she seems to be active at the English lessons. Therefore, she thinks that with her interest, she can get good score of her academic performance.
