4.1. The history of Pulut Kuning

Pulut Kuning carried by Malay tribe. In Indonesia, It came from Malay Kingdom in the river upstream Batanghari. Malay tribe comes from Jambi, in Sumatera island and developed to all of region in especially in Sumatera and Kalimantan. In that moment Pulut Kuning known as a Kingdom’s food. Absolutely, yellow colour in Pulut Kuning is a symbol of King’s colour. The civilians must not use that colour. Not only for food, they must not use the yellow colour for their home, clothes, housewares and etcetra. As a source of the yellow colour, Malay society use saffron for colouring Pulut Kuning. They choose saffron because saffron is one of natural spices. The result of yellow colour from saffron is so hearty. Especially Pulut Kuning served with with rendang or curry chicken. The fusion of the yellow colour from Pulut Kuning and rendang make a beutiful colour. Pulut Kuning become a symbol of grandeur for Malay society. Pulut Kuning must is in every cultural tradition activities such as a wedding ceremony, circumcision, makes a pilgrimage to Mecca, inauguration name for babby and etcetra. Some of that activities showed how important Pulut Kuning for Malay society. Pulut Kuning served in Balai, a place for Pulut Kuning. That’s look like a Kings’ crown.

Slowly but sure Pulut Kuning start cooked by people. Because more people can cook and eat it, Pulut Kuning not only eat for King, but also for Malay people. This Malay food becomes traditional Indonesion food. People cooked it is not just for cultural ceremony. Pulut Kuning become a daily consumption. They often cooked and share it to their neighbour. Pulut Kuning become more familiar because now, not only Malay people cooked it. The other people from the other tribe have known how to make Pulut Kuning and consume someday. Together with the period development, some people not only use saffron for make Pulut Kuning. As a efficient factor they buy a colour matter for colouring Pulut Kuning. Not only that, some people make Pulut Kuning as their profession. They sell Pulut Kuning as a generally food. Even they open a food shop for sell Pulut Kuning. It can make for a present or souveniers. Except that, Pulut Kuning now not only can be consume just with rendang or curry chicken. It can consume with a butter of coconut, egg, and all sorts of side-dish. More than that, Pulut Kuning is not clumsy anymore. If long time ago Pulut Kuning was served in Balai, now Pulut Kuning can served in every place. The model of Pulut Kuning is not only following for Balai model. It can change to the other model. Such as, a circle, triangle, or there are have any former which can make Pulut Kuning seen more modern and beautiful.
