CHAPTER V CO CLUSIO A D SUGGESTIO S
The last chapter presents three major parts; they are conclusions, recommendations, and suggestions. The first part is the conclusion which
concerns the answer to the problem. The second part is recommendations, which present recommendations for future researches on the novel. The last part is
suggestions for education in general.
A. Conclusion
Based on the previous chapter, I will present the conclusions of this study. In this study, I discuss about the roles of family and women on Saudi Arabia
tradition of marriage as revealed in Rajaa Alsanea’s Girls of Riyadh. From the analysis, it can be concluded that family and women have crucial positions and
roles on marriage tradition in Saudi Arabia. The roles of family on Saudi Arabia tradition of marriage showed on how
the family protects their members, including on the marraige matters. Traditionally, the marriage partner is chosen by the family. On choosing the
marriage partners, the family really concerns with the family background of the candidates. The candidates will be took into account if their family’s background
is in the same level or higher. The perfect potential groom or bride is not only seen by their characters, personality and behavior, but also from the background
of their family.

The other roles of family on marriage can be seen on when the family becomes the decision maker on who marries who and whether a couple can get
marriage or not. The guardian or wali—father or other close male family member—is the one who has responsibility in selecting a family member’s
marriage partner. It also can be seen that family’s approval is the most important license to get married. When their family rejects their partner, there is nothing
they can do but accept it. The roles of women on the tradition of marriage in Saudi Arabia are quite
a lot. A woman as a mother has a big role in the family. She has the authority to decide whom her son will get married to, such as in the case where Firas’ mother
rejected Michelle and then wed him to another woman. Mother also becomes the decisive voice related to the household expenditures, the upbringing and
education for children, and sometimes in the marriage arrangements. Woman as a husband’s companion is demanded to be a good wife. She should devote her life
for her husband. That is just like what Gamrah did, even when her husband did not treat her well and cheated on her. She still should fight for her marriage.
