Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Jember

Pemberian bahan organik (kompos kulit kakao) merupakan upaya untuk
memperbaiki sifat-sifat kimia, fisik dan biologi tanah agar tanah tersebut memiliki
kemampuan mendukung pertumbuhan bibit tanaman kakao. Banyaknya bahan
organik diduga akan memberikan pengaruh yang berbeda terhadap sifat kimiawi
tanah. Upaya perbaikan ketiga sifat tanah tersebut dapat dilakukan secara simultan
yakni selain pemberian bahan organik juga diimbangi dengan upaya pemupukan
anorganik.
Kebutuhan tanah lapisan atas sebagai media tanam di pembibitan kakao
sangat besar. Pengambilan lapisan tanah di lahan kebun dapat mengakibatkan
semakin menipisnya tanah lapisan atas. Oleh sebab itu perlu adanya alternatif
sebagai bahan media pembibitan namun alternatif yang digunakan harus memiliki
sifat-sifat

yang dikehendaki

oleh

bibit

tanaman

kakao

dan

juga dapat

mengefisiensikan penggunaan pupuk yang diberikan pada saat pembibitan.
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui komposisi kompos kulit
kakao yang sesuai dengan pertumbuhan bibit kakao dan efisiensi pemberian pupuk
pada pembibitan tanaman kakao. Manfaat penelitian ini adalah membantu pekebun
atau penangkar bibit untuk mendapatkan hasil bibit yang baik dengan memanfaatkan
limbah kebun berupa kulit buah kakao sebagai media tanam di pembibitan tanaman
kakao tanpa banyak mengambil tanah lapisan atas di arel kebun dengan demikian
kondisi lingkungan kebun tidak terganggu.
Penelitian disusun secara faktorial dengan menggunakan Rancangan Acak
Kelompok dengan tiga ulangan. Faktor-faktor yang diuji adalah sebagai berikut :

a. Faktor komposisi media tanam berdasarkan volume (tanah : kompos kulit kakao)
terdiri atas 4 taraf, yakni:
K0 = Komposisi 100% tanah : 0% kompos kulit kakao
K1 = Komposisi

75% tanah : 25% kompos kulit kakao

K2 = Komposisi

50% tanah : 50% kompos kulit kakao

K3 = Komposisi

25% tanah : 75% kompos kulit kakao

b. Faktor dosis pupuk (diberikan sekali saat bibit berumur 1 bulan) terdiri atas

taraf, yakni:
P0 = tanpa pupuk
P1 = 1,5 gram per bibit (0,5 g Urea; 0,5 g SP-36; 0,5 g KCl)
P2 = 3,0 gram per bibit (1,0 g Urea; 1,0 g SP-36; 1,0 g KCl)
P3 = 4,5 gram per bibit (1,5 g Urea; 1,5 g SP-36; 1,5 g KCl)
Setiap plot percobaan terdiri atas 3 tanaman.
Untuk mengetahui ada tidaknya pengaruh yang nyata dari komposisi kompos
kulit kakao sebagai media tanam dan dosis pemberian pupuk serta interaksinya, data
yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan sidik ragam (varian) yang dilanjutkan dengan uji
Tukey pada taraf kesalahan 5 %.
Pertumbuhan bibit kakao yang baik ditunjukan pada media dengan komposisi
kompos 25% (K1). (P2) menunjukan hasil yang lebih baik pada pertumbuhan bibit
tanaman kakao tetapi tidak menunjukan efisiensi yang nyata pada pemberian pupuk
karena dosis tersebut merupakan dosis anjuran.
