F. Research Procedure

This research had several steps to conduct the research. Ary et al. 2002, pp. 29-30 explain that there are seven stages in research. The following explanations about the steps in research are selecting the research problem, reviewing the literature on the problem, designing the research, collecting the data, analyzing the data, interpreting the findings and stating conclusions, and reporting results.

1. Selecting the Research Problem Limitation

Selecting the research problem became the first step in this research. The researcher formulated two research problems. The research problems were about the issue related the English Language Teaching. It was interesting to be discussed because the researcher had some experiences on the topic. Therefore, the researcher focuses on the topic of written feedback provided by the teachers on Critical Reading and Writing II Class.

2. Reviewing Literature

The second step was reviewing literature on the problem. Therefore, the researcher used the relevant theories from many experts to obtain the knowledge about teacher‟s written feedback and teacher‟s beliefs. It should be specific to avoid misunderstanding on the concept. It was not only to answer the research problems but also to help the researcher analyze the data. 46

3. Designing the Research

The third step was designing the research. It was a plan of the research to decide the type of research. This research used qualitative research. In order to obtain the data, the researcher used one type of qualitative research, which was document analysis as the method. It used recorded material of the written feedback in the form of text.

4. Collecting the Data

The fourth step was collecting the data from the teachers‟ written feedback as the documents to be analyzed later. The researcher copied the data as the documents for the research. The data interpreted by the researcher to obtain the teacher‟s beliefs that underlie the practice of giving written feedback.

5. Analyzing the Data

In the fifth step, all of the data must be analyzed. This research used a qualitative data generally in the form of table with certain criterion. The data was organized and categorized in the form of tables in order to be described the findings easily. The researcher made a table for each class in order to know the kinds of written feedback provided by each teacher.

6. Interpreting the Findings and Stating Conclusions
