1. Taking Responsibility for Our Own Teaching

According to Gebhard and Oprandy 1999, p. 5, the teachers have responsibility in their own teaching to deliver the knowledge to the students. Therefore, the teachers have desire to explore themselves in order to enrich their knowledge in teaching. This responsibility in teaching became the teacher belief that underlies the teachers‟ written feedback. The teacher had responsibility to internalize the knowledge about writing. This beliefs focused on how the teachers guide the students to write well. The responsibility was about all of the knowledge or information in making critical essay. There were 34 times of taking respo nsibility for the teachers‟ teaching activity as the teacher‟s belief in Critical Reading and Writing II Class. The teacher‟s belief of taking responsibility for the teaching was recognized on the example of teacher‟s comments. 82 From that, the researcher fo und the teacher‟s responsibility in teaching that the student had to understand how to draw meaning out of the book in order to make an argumentative essay. The teacher was successful in hisher class because the student could have a good discussion in the class. Therefore, the student understood how to deal with their arguments and integrate it into his or her writing. The teacher in Critical Reading and Writing II Class was demanded to use this belief because they were one of the sources of how to write well. Table 4.14 The Examples of Teacher’s Belief 1 No. Beliefs Teachers’ Comments 1. Taking responsibility for the teaching. - Im glad to hear your reflection and how you draw meanings out of the book and the discussion in the class. - Not just summarize others ideas. - Follow the thesis guidelines. - Try to be critical when making a sentence. To improve the content of your essay, you can acknowledge others point of view by citing others‟ work. The teachers also had responsibility to help the student‟s writing in order to create hisher own ideas because the student not only summarized the other ideas but also gave hisher ideas in the essay. In summarizing other ideas the teacher had to teach how to write a quote using the thesis guidelines. The teachers also asked the student to use the thesis guidelines because the teacher was a bridge to deliver the knowledge in teaching learning activity. Thus, the teacher used this teacher‟s belief in order to avoid permanent error or misunderstanding on making an essay. The teacher also had responsibility to give clear, specific, and helpful feedback that can be used for the students to revise their writing. 83
