A. 2 Literal Translation
Literal translation is the technique used by translating a word or an expression literally. It focuses on the form and structure of the original text. It is
started from word for word translation and then the translator makes changes to conform the grammar of the TL. After analyzing the data, the researcher found
26 data or 33.33 using this technique. Below are the examples:
a. Datum No. 2 ST
: It was a land of legend, where the coal buried deep in the ground had been created 280 million years before.
BL-14 TT
: Sebuah desa legendaris, dimana 280 juta tahun sebelumnya terbentuk batu bara yang terpendam jauh di dalam tanah.

The past participle phrase found in the datum is buried deep in the ground. It is translated into terpendam jauh di dalam tanah. The transformation
happens for each word in the same position according to its order. Buried is translated into terpendam, deep is translated into jauh, and in the ground is
translated into di dalam tanah. Thus, the past participle phrase is translated literally
b. Datum No. 19 ST
: Alec was proud of that, but jealous of the young men gathered around her, and he could not help wondering how many of then she had been to bed with.

: Alec bangga akan hal itu, tetapi cemburu terhadap pemuda-pemuda yang bergerombol mengitari Vivian. Dia tak mampu mengenyahkan pikiran, beberapa

Here, the researcher found the past participle phrase of gathered around her. It is translated into bergerombol mengitari Vivian. According to the

pattern, the phrase is translated literally. As a matter of fact, gathered is translated bergerombol, around is translated into mengitari, her, as the pronoun of person as
object, is translated into Vivian.
A. 3 Generalization
As stated in the previous chapter, this technique rendering a certain terminology or idiom by giving the description of its form or function. In the
source of data, the novel of Bloodline, the researcher only found one datum or 1.28, which is translated by using description. It is datum no. 7:

The past participle phrase found here is cooked in beer and flavoured with cumin. It is translated into yang direndam dalam bir dengan bumbu
penyedap. There is a word in the source language which has no equivalence in the target language. It is cumin. The word cumin
doesn‟t have the same equivalence in Indonesian. Thus it must be substituted relevant to our culture. So the
translator translates the term for a more general one. Therefore, cumin is translated into bumbu penyedap.
