Vocabulary is one of elements of language that has to be mastered by
language because without mastering vocabulary, learners will get problem in
language learning. Teaching vocabulary in elementary school is not easy because
the students have difficulties to memorize new vocabulary. This condition also
happened in SD N Tambahmulyo 01 Pati in academic year 2013/2014. And the
students have low ability in mastering vocabulary. After analyzing the problems,
the writer assumes to use an instructional media that is puppet to improve the
students’ vocabulary mastery.

The objective of this research is improving students’ vocabulary mastery
by using puppet at the Fifth Grade Students of SD N Tambahmulyo 01 Pati in
Academic Year 2013/2014 through Classroom Action Research (CAR).
The classroom action research is used to design this research which began
from reflection and followed by two cycles. Each cycle is conducted through four
steps; planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. This research is conducted at the
fifth grade students of SD N Tambahmulyo 01 Pati in academic year 2013/2014.
The class consists of 38 students to conduct the research.
In the result, the students’ vocabulary mastery improves from cycle cycle I
until cycle II. In pre cycle, the average of the students vocabulary mastery score is
59,4, in cycle I the average of the students’ vocabulary mastery score is 64,8 and
cycle II at the average of the students’ speaking ability is 88,42. Besides, the
students and teachers’ activity are improved and the problem that has faced by the
teacher decreased in every cycle. Therefore, writer can conclude that the use of
puppets can improve students’ vocabulary mastery at the fifth grade students of
SD N Tanbahnulyo 01 Pati in Academic Year 2013/2014.
Therefore, the writer recommends some more than one suggestion.
Teacher could use puppet as media of teaching and learning to teach English
especially vocabulary. In the application of puppet as media of teaching, teacher
should be creative to use puppets as media of teaching to makes students feel

interested in the material or teaching process.

Kosa kata adalah salah satu element bahasa yang harus dikusai oleh
pembelajar karena tanpa menguasai vocabulary pembelajar akan mendapat
kesulitan dalam belajar bahasa. Mengajar vocabulary di SD tidak mudah karena
siswa sulit untuk mengingat kosa kata baru.Kondisi ini juga terjadi di SD N
Tambahmulyo 01 Pati dan siswa mempunyai kemampuan yang rendah dalam
pengusaaan kosa kata. Setelah menganalisa permasalahan tersebut, peneliti
berasumsi bahwa dengan mengunakan media pembelajaran yaitu puppet dapat
meningkatkan kemampuan pengusaan kosa kata siswa.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pengusaan
kata – kata siswa dengan mengunakan puppet pada siswa kelas V di SD N
Tambahmulyo 01 Pati tahun ajaran 2013/2014 dengan mengunakan Penelitian
Tindakan Kelas (PTK).
Desain yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan
Kelas yang diawali dari refleksi yang diikuti dengan dua siklus. Setiap siklus
terdiri dari empat tahapan, yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan
refleksi. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada siswa kelas V SD N Tambahmulyo 01 Pati
tahun ajaran 2013/2014 yang terdiri dari 38 siswa.
Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa kemampuan penguasaan kosa kata
siswa meningkat dari siklus I sampai siklus II. Nilai rata – rata kemampuan
penguasaan siswa di pre cycle 59,4, di siklus I menjadi 64,8 dan di siklus II 88,42
disamping itu, aktifitas siswa dan guru meningkat dan masalah yang ditemukan
oleh guru semakin berkurang di setiap siklusnya. Oleh karena itu, peneliti
menyimpulkan bahwa penggunaan puppet dapat meningkatkan kemampuan
penguasaan kosa kata siswa kelas V di SD N Tambahmulyo 01 Pati tahun ajaran
2013/2014.
Dengan begitu, penulis memberikan beberapa saran.Pertama, guru dapat
mengunakan boneka untuk media pembelajaran bahasa Inggris terutama
kemampuan penguasaan kosa kata. Dalam pengunaan boneka guru harus kreatif

dalam pengunaan boneka sebagai media pengajaran untuk membuat siswa lebih
tertarik.
