  ABSTRAK

Skripsi ini berjudul “An Analysis on unit shift in translation of Oogy, The Dog Only a Family Could Love into Oogy, Anjing Buruk Rupa yang Setia Menemani Perjalanan Suka dan Duka Sebuah Keluarga”.

ABSTRACT

The title of this thesis is “An Analysis on Unit Shift in Translation of Oogy, the Dog Only a Family Could Love. This thesis analyzed the unit shift occurred in the translation of “Oogy, the Dog Only a Family Could Love” a novel by Larry Levin into Bahasa Indonesia as “Oogy, Anjing Buruk Rupa yang Setia Menemani Perjalanan Suka dan Duka Sebuah Keluarga” by Maria Elvire. The theory used in identifying the shift in this qualitative study was the one developed by Catford in 1965 explaing about the division of shifts. The data for this study were obtained from the original novel written in English and the translated version written in Bahasa Indonesia. The data for this study were selected through purposive sampling method because not all of the data available were analyzed. Malo formula was used to find the most commonly used unit shifts in the translated version of the novel. The result of analysis showed that there were 102 unit shifts with two types of level shifts, namely, 101 shifts (99, 02%) fom phrase to clause and 1 shifts (0, 98%) from clause to phrase. From the result of this analysis, it was find out that the most dominant unit shift occurred in the translating the novel was the shift from phrase to clause.
