The second category is the suffix {-ure} having the meaning ‘the result of-’. The quantity of this category is nine data. Below are some examples of the word with the meaning of ‘the result of-’. Table 8. The Suffix {-ure} Having the Meaning ‘the result of-’ No. Noun Suffix {-ure} Meaning Base Word Base Word 1. create creature to make something happen or exist a living thing real or imaginary that can move around 2. enclose enclosure to put something in the same envelope, package, etc. something that is placed in an envelope with a letter 3. moist moisture slightly wet very small drops of water that are present in the air on a surface 4. prefect prefecture an officer responsible for an area of local government in some countries an area of local government in some countries 5. press pressure to push something closely and firmly against something the force or weight with which something presses against something else In contrast to the other categories, the meanings of the words receiving the suffix {-ure} in this category are not really defined as ‘the result of-’. As seen in the data examples above, there are many different meanings of the words and none of them mention ‘the result of-’. However, those different meanings can be categorized in one category which is ‘the result of-’ since the point of those word meanings is the same. Besides, it is also strengthened by Oxford Advanced 49 Learner’s Dictionary of Current English Ninth Edition 2015: 1724 that defines one of the meanings of the suffix {-ure} which is ‘the result of-’. The bases in this category do not come from one lexical category only. There are three kinds of lexical categories of the bases. They consist of seven verb bases, two adjectives bases, and one noun base. Among the three lexical categories, the dominant lexical categories in this category are the verb bases. The addition of the suffix {-ure} to the verb bases alters their meanings into ‘the result of X’ in which X refers to the bases. The example is the base create mentioned in the table above. After the suffix {-ure} is added, the word creature has the meaning ‘a living thing real or imaginary that can move around’. That definition refers to ‘the result of making something happen or exist’ or in other words ‘the result of create’. It also happens to the word enclosure and pressure. Respectively, the definitions of those words are ‘something that is placed in an envelope with a letter’ and ‘the force or weight with which something presses against something else’. It means that the word enclosure refers to ‘the result of putting something in the same envelope, package, etc.’ or simply said as ‘the result of enclose’ and pressure refers to ‘the result of pushing something closely and firmly against something’ or simply said as ‘the result of pressure’. The other lexical categories appear on the base moist which is an adjectives and prefect which is a noun. According to the dictionary, the base moist means ‘slightly wet’, while prefect means ‘an officer responsible for an area of local government in some countries’. After being attached to the suffix {- 50 ure}, the words moistur and prefecture have meanings referring to ‘the result of being X’ in which X refers to the bases. The meaning of the word moisture, for example, is ‘very small drops of water that are present in the air on a surface’. That meaning refers to ‘the result of being slighty wet’ or also can be defined as ‘the result of being moist’. The same thing goes to prefect as well. Hence, it can be concluded that the suffix {-ure} also has the meaning ‘the result of-’ since the meanings of those words refer to the result of their bases.
