63 question number 3, they said that learning English was very difficult. They also had difficulties in translating the words from English to Indonesian language. Based on the questionnaire again, the writer found that the students seemed desperated about this language and they thought that learning English is not fun at all.Fortunately, the writer brought a song that could cure it with a lot of fun. In question number 6, the writer asked them whether they liked English song or not. The answer was not bad. Some of them said that they loved to hear English song, but few of them thought that English song was difficult to understand. Some of them also gave very pleasant responses to this question. So, it was a valuable opportunity for the writer to introduce the learning strategy in teaching English by using song as the medium. By using song, they could learn English properly, especially in vocabulary. Their motivation could also improve during the lesson question number 11. For the question about whether song should be used as the medium for teaching English or not, they answered in a positive way. It proved that by using song as the medium, they could understand the words well. They could also get excellent motivation in learning English. It was very wonderful if they started to love English because of this kind of medium.

4.7 Discussion

In the previous chapter, the writer has discussed about the importance of song to improve students’ motivation in learning vocabulary. The writer also described how the song can influence human’s life. The table and the chart of pre-cycle 1, cycle 1 and final cycle 2 test in this research show that there is a high improvement in their vocabulary understanding by listening to English song. 64 Based on students’ questionnaire, field notes, motivation rubric and the tests, the writer concludes that there are some improvements in their motivation in learning English and in their achievement. The motivation and achievement improvements can be seen from their questionnaire answers, motivation behavior and their result during the tests. The students show positive answers when they answer the question related to the use of this medium in narrative text. They also show positive result when the tests are held as one of the indicators in this research. The improvement from pre-cycle 1 test to post-test are 54.75This percentage is very high. It proves that by using English song, they can achieve something more in vocabulary understanding. Another conclusion from my research is the respondents show the positive responses toward using song as the medium in teaching and learning process based on their questionnaire. Students who enjoy the teaching and learning process, enjoy the song and the game activities which the writer provides during the treatments, get high scores. Some of them also get a perfect score in their final cycle 2 test. The writer realizes that some students don’t like to listen to the song. The writer also understands that some of them have a little confidence when it comesto such kind of environment listening to the song. It proves that students have their own method in learning something. So, the writer tries to use some varieties in teaching the “Fire Coming Out of a Monkey’s Head” song to them. By developing the methods, getting their attention, and keeping their motivation, little by little they gain more exposure and experience in doing the process and in the end of the treatments, they get good scores. In learning language, it means we do the process, because language can’t be got easily and instantly. It needs some processes to master the language. By learning the 65 process, we need to develop the perception about language and keep our motivation in high level in this case, the perception means something that can make someone love to learn and think that learning language is very interesting. So, we can understand every information and get used to it. In teaching and learning process, the writer tries to improve their level of perception by doing the treatment for several times and develop some materials as the support for the treatment. So, they can understand what kind of information that they can get from doing it and this repetition by using song is a good practice for language learning. As we know that in Indonesia, English is a language which is considered as a foreign language. Those who learn English as a foreign language will not be the same with those who learn English as the first language. The environment is different, so do with the motivation. For people who use English as the first language will consider English as the part of their lives, but people who learn English as the foreign language will think that English is just something which is not very important. So, their motivation to learn English is very low. They can’t understand the words too. That is why teachers need to understand this kind of problem and find the solution for this problem. English as aforeign language needs a lot of attention and practice. A few of respondents gave negative answers related to their likeness to listen to English song. They said that listening would take a lot of energy and they didn’t like it. Listening to the song which is not in their language Indonesian is not understandable. It also affects to their scores. Based on the result, those who don’t like listening to the song, they get the scores which are lower than others. 66 Some respondents answered with negative responses when the writer asked whether their English learning process that they had learnt before the treatment from the writer easy or not. The writer also asked whether their English learning process that they had learnt beforewas fun or not. In my observation, they couldn’t learn English properly because they didn’t understand about the English language at all. These are complicated problems that occur in Indonesia. Theoretically, learning language is like learning something which related to our daily life. We use language to communicate with others. In reality, learning English language as foreign language is very hard. Based on the questionnaire and interview with the students, most of them said that learning English isn’t interesting because they don’t know the words and the meaning at all. Some teachers in junior high school also not realize about this students’ problem and do the teaching and learning process without any worry. They don’t know that their students feel uncomfortable and demotivate with the teaching method because they forget with the fundamental thing in learning English vocabulary. The environment also does not give students a room for practice. That is why, if the teacher is able to create exciting environtment, the students will be freed to express their ideas, feeling and opinions about this language. So, they can learn English in a proper development and proper environment. They can also improve their likeness and motivation in learning English if the teacher can teach language properly. Teaching language is an art, not a science. So, we need to understand the essence in teaching language, because language is used everywhere. It is like the air that we breathe every day and teaching language needs something that can improve students’ likeness and motivation during the lesson. 67 In the questionnaire, the writer also understands the importance of curiosity in language development. The writer also mentioned it before the treatments are conducted. The writer believes that with curiosity their need about knowledge and something which is new for them will improve. It also affects with their language acquisition in their early stage. Curiosity about language can also improve students’ motivation to learn English more and more, because they want to know it and they realize that they need to learn this language to enhance their skill. As a teacher, we should realize these issues because it is very important for the students. Song has some potential aspects to improve students’ curiosity in vocabulary mastery. Song has enjoyable words and song can ease the listeners to grasp the meaning or understand the context in general. It can be used as a medium in teaching English for fun. English is not about memorizing. English needs a lot of practice, but some people think that English practice is very boring. Learning language is not supposed to be like that. Language is truly fun when we want to learn it very well, and song can give some fun in learning it. Song contains unfamiliar words for vocabulary learning. Song contains rhythm, melody and tone for listening practice so they can enjoy the process. By using song, they can reveal the meaning of the lyric with such enjoyment. When the respondents were asked about the idea about using song as the English medium, they answered it with “yes”. So, the writer concludes that students want to learn English with this kind of fun medium. By using song, they can also improve their motivation and they seem more focused during teaching and learning process. 68 Based on the explanation above, it is a good choice to choose song as one of the media in learning method, because method in teaching and learning English is very important to make it more enjoyable, more effective and more understandable. Motivation and curiosity are also important. If a student or a person has the motivation in learning language, his or her goal will likely be achieved. On the other hand, someone who has no motivation in learning, they will get nothing about it. The writer assumed that song, especially “Fire Coming Out of a Monkey’s Head” simplifies the motivation. Students who don’t want to learn English because of the grammar or other skills, they can’t refuse to listen to the song. Song can be heard everywhere. They can learn it everytime, they can listen it when they are reading a book, waiting for something, and any other activities. The song has a lot of benefits if they listen it everyday. Song is just one of the interesting media in teaching English. Teachers can develop another thing for teaching English. They should also develop an interesting environment for them. So, students can get comfortable and suitable environment for learning English. 69

CHAPTER V CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS

In this chapter, the writer is going to present the conclusions and suggestions.

5.1 Conclusion

According to the result of data interpretation and discussion in the previous chapter, the writer draws some conclusions related to the research. First is the previous profile of students’ performance related to vocabulary items understanding in a narrative text. Based on the result of the research, the writer concludes that the previous profile of the students’ performance on vocabulary items related to narrative text was not that good. It proves from their score in the pre-cycle 1 test. In the pre-cycle 1 test, the students only got 36.25. It was lower than the first and final cycle 2 tests. Based on the motivation rubric, in the first meeting, the students looked so confused with the material given by the writer. They lack of motivation to learn English at the beginning. Their confidence was also low and they seemed uncomfortable with the environment. The writer also concludes that the students’ improvement during the teaching and learning activity by using “Fire Coming Out of A Monkey’s Head” Song related students’ motivation in learning vocabulary of a narrative text was good. It was supported by the significance different result of pre-cycle 1 test that was lower 36.25 than the cycle 1 test’s result 75 and the result of final cycle 2 test was higher than both of them 91.
