“The process of selecting textbooks first, the sales persons should meet the curriculum division. The teachers were then asked to look through
the textbooks. If they were suitable for the students then the teachers were allowed to recommend the textbooks to the administrators to purchase
them in a sufficient number.
… Here, we were given freedom to have many references. We were given facility
. Even we were offered… Who needs books? We still have enough budgets.

Yet, Mr. Yudi stated that he had ever experienced failure in selecting textbooks. This made him learn that using one textbook was not enough.
“When I taught in private school, I experienced that the textbook I chose could not be used to study and it was not challenging. What to do then?
Then I had the idea to use at least two textbooks … Now we used many

Success and failure of textbooks selection-Translation by the researcher
Discussing on the success of textbooks selection, he could not mention which textbook best contributed to the students‟ learning success. Instead of
saying that selecting one single textbook gave contribution to the students‟ learning success, he insisted that integrating all the sources he and his students
had did best.
“It made me difficult to decide which learning sources contributed best to the students. It was likely the integration of all sources gave challenges to
the students so that they became creative and very competitive in the teaching and learning process

e. Intention
Mr. Yudi revealed his intention regarding with the future textbooks selection. He stated that there would not be any differences from what he used to
do. He would use many teaching learning sources, and the prescribed textbook
given by the governments would be functioned as a reference. He believed that perfect textbooks, which could facilitate all skills and absolutely suit to all of the
students‟ needs, would never be available. That was why he insisted that it would be impossible for him to implement only one textbook in conducting teaching and
learning process.
“I insist to do the same ways. I would use many sources in the teaching and learning process, use many references, involve the students in finding
teaching learning sources. The textbook published by the government would be used as a reference in implementing the curriculum, if there is
not any textbooks recommended by the government, then we would do what we do right now. There would be no perfect textbooks which are able
to cover all skills, contain various expected activities. That is way I would still use many sources. The way I use to select textbooks would remain
the same
.” YudINT- Intentions to do in the future textbooks selection- Translation by the researcher

suitability with the curriculum, to achieve the basic competence and core competence and to find the suitability with the syllabus, topics, and illustrations,
in order to meet the needs of learners, teachers, and administrators. He believed that it was not only a good textbook which contributed to the success of teaching
learning but also the use of the other teaching learning sources. In addition, the administrators never influenced him in the process of textbooks selection. He was
given full autonomy.

Further she considered that all classes in the same level should study the same topics and used the same materials, which could be more easily conducted
when textbooks were applied. Besides, textbooks were also needed for the sake of teachers‟ easiness in giving instructions and in some other conditions.
“It is the matter of similarity of the discussion in classes. If each class used the different materials, then we could not discuss the similar details.
” AmiUND-Definition of textbooks selection-Translation by the

In selecting textbooks, Bu Ami focused mostly on the students needs. Bu Ami‟s first consideration was the materials and topics contained in the textbooks.
