T-test Technique of Analyzing Data

students in improving their ability. If the students make mistakes in their writing composition, teacher should help them to make the correctness of the mistakes.

3.5.2 T-test

The required data had to be analyzed to see whether there was significant difference between the pre-test and the post-test for the experimental group and the control group. The writer used the t-test formula, Arikunto 2006:272: t X X S 1 n 1 n Where: t = t-test, X 1 = the mean score of the experimental group, X 2 = the mean score of the control group, S = standard deviation, n 1 = the number of students in the experimental group, n 2 = the number of students in the control group. The formula of standard deviation was as follows: S n1 1 S 1 2 n2 1 S 2 2 n n 2 Where: S = standard deviation, S 1 = variance of the experimental group, S 2 = variance of the control group, n 1 = the number of students in the experimental group, n 2 = the number of students in the control group. The significance between the pre-test and the post-test for the experimental and the control group was analyzed using t-test formula above. If the value of t- test was higher than critical value on the table there was significant value from the pre-test to the post-test. After that the significant difference between teaching writing using animation movies and teaching writing using traditional method was analyzed using t-test formula to see the difference between the two means. The computation of t-test was described on chapter IV. CHAPTER IV RESEARCH FINDINGS AND DISCUSSIONS This chapter discusses about research findings and discussions which solves the problems statement stated in chapter I; they are how is the use of animation movies in improving the students ’ ability of writing narrative text at tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Wanadadi in the academic year of 20092010? and how effective does the use of animation movies in improving the students ’ ability of writing narrative text at tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Wanadadi in the academic year of 20092010? 4.1 The Use of Animation Movies in Teaching and Learning Process The Answer of the First Problem The writer used animation movies as media to teach narrative text in this experiment. The experiment conducted in X 7 of SMA N 1 Wanadadi. The teaching and learning process in the experimental group is using this media.
