Abstract
Ba ckg rou nd : Quercet in is one of t he act ive subst ances in propolis which has m any
benefit s for hum an healt h as ant ioxidant , ant icancer, ant iallergy, cardioprot ect or,
gast roprot ect or , lowering blood pressur e, and increase t he body im m unit y.
Quercet in cont ent in propolis is influenced by geographical fact ors, differences in
t he season, clim at e, plant s, bees, and t he t ype of solvent . This st udy aim s t o
det erm ine differences of quercet in levels of propolis in t he m arket area of Surakar t a.
M e t ho ds: This st udy uses observat ional analyt ic m et hods. Sam ples of propolis were
sold in t he m arket area of Surakart a. Sam pling w as done by pur posive sam pling as
m any as six brands of propolis w hich is divided int o 6 groups: P1, P2, P3, P4, P5,
and P6. Each group w as m easured five t im es. Det erm inat ion of quercet in in propolis
by using UV- Vis spect rophot om et er m et hod of Prussian Blue. Dat a w er e analyzed
for quer cet in levels wit h one- w ay ANOVA st at ist ical t est using t he com put er
program SPSS 17 for windows.
Re sult s: Average of quer cet in levels of propolis sam ples obt ained result s P1 =
9.4440 ± 0.06465 µg/mL, P2 = 4.4760 ± 0.08591 µg/mL, P3 = 10.2700 ± 0.04000
µg/mL, P4 = 7.4120 ± 0.06648 µg/mL, P5 = 8.6780 ± 0.03347 µg/mL, P6 =
8.4960 ± 0.10877 µg/mL with p < 0.001.
Co nclusio n: There ar e differences of quercet in levels of pr opolis in t he m arket area
of Sur akart a.
