This research in about exploration of poisonous plants in the Lumban Julu
Protected Forest district Lumban Julu Toba Samosir Regency. This research is
about identification, analysis of secondary metabolites, and the potential for
development of that poisonous plant species. The method used in the study
includes three stages. The first phase related to aspects of local knowledge and
was conducted by of local knowledge survey. For the second phase related to
aspects of diversity which is done by collecting data of vegetation analysis. The
third aspect includes the secondary metabolites found in plants and was done by
the detection of the content of secondary metabolites. Exploration has been
carried out poisonous plants in the Lumban Julu Protected Forest. Based on the
exploration conducted found fourteen species of poisonous plants. Each plant has
the potential to be developed. Poisonous plants can be used as raw material for
the manufacture of plant-based pesticides, preservative, and aroma therapy.
Based on the analysis performed, it is known some herbs that can be used as a
pesticide plant among others demban-demban (Licaria sp), siulat-ulat (Syzygium
sp.), pandan duri (Pandanus sp.), ria-ria (Eleusine sp.), gala-gala (Eurycoma

longifolia Jack), keladi (Caladium sp.), mesoyi (Cryptocarya massoia Kosterm),
gulun (Ficus lepicarpa Blume.), bulu-bulu (Leea simplicifolia Zoll dan Moritzi),
andor (Dioscorea sp), latong andosari (Alstonia scholaris L. R. Br), Sitorhom
(Eugenia sp.), linggas (Baringtonia sp.), and sijubbak (Homalanthus populneus
(Giesel) Pax).
