Implikasi Kegiatan Penambangan Batubara Terhadap Kualitas Air Sungai (Studi Kasus Sungai Lok Buntar Kecamatan Kintap Kabupaten Tanah Laut Provinsi Kalimantan Selatan).

IMPLICATIONS OF COAL MINING ACTIVITIES ON RIVER WATER
QUALITY (LOK BUNTAR RIVER CASE STUDY,
SUBDISTRICT KINTAP TANAH LAUT REGENCY,
SOUTH KALIMANTAN PROVINCE)

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted in May to September 2013 aims to assess the
extent of the implications of coal mining on Lok Buntar river water quality, to
examine whether the quality of river water accordance with the Lok Buntar
allotment for drinking water standard, and examine how people respond to the
presence of coal mining activities around the Lok Buntar river. Stages of the
research consisted of a survey and preliminary observations, the determination of
the point of sampling, insitu measurements, sampling, interviews and
questionnaires, laboratory analysis, and data analysis. Water samples were taken
at 4 (four) observation stations 2 (two) times at intervals of 7 (seven) days. To
determine the extent of differences in the value of the parameters of each station
used statistical tests using SPSS 16.0 program. Analysis of river water quality
status in the study using the Pollution Index method. The results showed coal
mining activities have implications for river water quality degradation indicated
by the increase in the value of the parameter Turbidity, TSS, TDS, BOD, COD,

Fe, Mn, and SO4 and the declining value of the ratio of BOD/COD, DO
parameter values, pH, and the low number and type of plankton. Pollution Index
analysis shows for water quality Class I standard, water quality including in the
category of blackened mild (1.0
