and quantitative analytical techniques. Quantitative involves the counts of linguistics features whereas qualitative is concerned with functional interpretation of the identified quantitative patterns. The qualitative explanation helps to explore the importance of such findings for learning about patterns of language use. Thus, the definition of corpus in this research is a collection text in written form and stored in electronic form. Then, it provides frequency data which later can be analyzed.

B. Theoretical Framework

Nowadays, the textbook plays an important role for teachers and students in school. It seems to be a must to have a textbook as a handbook both for teachers and students. Teachers prefer to use textbook because it provides various tasks and activities. Textbook will save the teachers‟ time and energy. Teachers do not need to prepare the material and make their own exercises. However, textbook provides it. Having a textbook, students will be secure because they can study the material at home. Since the textbook is used as a handbook, it also provides some guidance related to teaching and learning process. Although the textbook has provided the guidance how to teach and how to learn, it does not mean that the teaching and learning will be success. Essentially, the success of teaching learning process does not depend on the textbook used. Teacher and students also take the role. How the teachers use the textbook, how the teachers deliver the task and activity from the textbook, how the students use the textbook are the key. In other word, how complete a textbook will not lead to the successful teaching learning without teachers who can use it. However, a good textbook is also needed for teachers and students. A good textbook here means that it is beneficial for users and it meets the users‟ needs. The textbook, especially English textbook has close relation with vocabulary. As we know, English is not a mother tongue in Indonesia. So that students will be difficult in learning vocabulary in English. Thus, vocabulary coverage provided in a textbook plays an important role in selecting the textbook. Richards 2001: 251 says that textbooks serve as the basis for much of the language input learners receive and the language practice that occurs in the classroom. Vocabulary takes an essential part in language learning since the meaning of language lies in the meaning of the vocabulary items as the key elements. If the contain of vocabulary is essential for users, how to assess whether a textbook provides enough vocabulary or not. We can count the number of words provided in a textbook. We have to count the words which consist of type, token and word family. Those words are used and recycled in different context. We can measure the students‟ comprehension from the number of token and type. If the number of token and type are almost the same, it means that the vocabulary items are various. However, if the number of token is far from the number of type, it means that the vocabulary items are repeated frequently. Word family is also needed in order to introduce new words and enrich the students‟ vocabulary. It helps the students to learn words in different contexts. Nevertheless, the number of recycling should not disrupt the students‟ comprehension because they cannot catch the meaning. 53
