3.7. Research Procedures
Before the test was begun, I gave the attendance list which should be filled by thirty students who are selected randomly. After that, I gave the test to them.
After the prepared time has been over, I collected the answer-sheet.
3.8. The Validity and the Reliability of the Test
3.8.1. The Validity of the Test
According to Gay 1987: 198, “The validity of the questionnaire is probably not done more often because it is not easy and requires much additional time and effort.
However, the appropriate validation procedure for a given questionnaire will depend upon the nature of the instrument”.
Based on the quotation above and also the explanation about the test before, I consider that the test is valid. In this research, I prepare the test is not difficult and not
too easy. I set the test that relates the curriculum. The test that was given for the 2008 years students of SDN No. 101878 has the content of validity because the questions of
the test are from their handbook. In additional, I use the face validity in which the students understand and work the test seriously for the test is relevant to their materials.
It means that the instrument is valid.
3.8.2. The Reliability of the Test
Reliability is one of the characteristics of good test. It refers to the consistency of
the measurement. Nurkancana and Sumaratana 1986:131 state, “The reliability of a test

23 is the extend to which it gives consistent result when applied by different people or on
different occasions”. It means that if the scores of the students are stable after applying it by different people or on different occasions then the test is reliable. But, if the score
tends to fluctuate too much, the test is unreliable. In this research, I have treated the 2008 sixth year students equally. I prepared
thirty questions and for each item would be given one point. So, every student will get scores as shehe could. I examined their answer-sheets in the same way. So, to obtain the
reliability of the test, I will use the following formula suggested by Kuder – Richarson:
KR r =
1 −
k k
− −
2
. 1
S k
M k
M
In which: r
means The reliability of the instrument k
means The number questions M
means The mean of the test score S
2
means The standard deviation
