1.1. Background of the Analysis

Language is the best means of communication to interact among people and to create a good relationship between them in society. Without language, they will not able to express and share their ideas, thoughts, feelings, stories, experiences, etc that is really needed to build a good relationship in life. In this world, every country has its own language or languages. But, they cannot use their own languages if they are in another country where their language is not understood. For example, generally Indonesian people cannot use Indonesian language when they are in German or other countries that do not understand Indonesian language. They should use a language that is understood by each. It is English. English is an international language that is used as a standard language in international level. Therefore, in order to create a relationship internationally, they have to use English. In Indonesia, English has been learnt from Kindergarten, Primary School, Junior High School, Senior High School, until University. However, still many people who have not been able to use English because English is so difficult to be learnt and understood. One of the difficult parts to be learnt is grammar because it creates some words to become a good sentence, paragraph, etc. One of grammatical components is part of speech. Fries 1957: 65 classified the part of speech into eight parts, they are, noun, pronoun, adjective, verb, adverb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection. According to Collin 1993:28 pronoun makes statements less repetitive while showing how the subjects and objects of a clause or a Universitas Sumatera Utara 2 series of clauses are connected. And he divided the pronouns into eight types; personal pronouns, possessive pronouns, reflexive pronouns, demonstrative pronouns, indefinite pronouns, reciprocal pronouns, relative pronouns, and interrogative pronouns. A personal pronoun is an important type of pronouns because it is used to point human beings, things, and animals that we are talking about. When we use language both in speaking and writing, we do not need to repeat a noun that is mentioned. For example, Anna is my friend. Anna is very clever. We do not need to repeat the word “Anna” to continue our statement. We should use the word “She” to change “Anna”. “She” is one of personal pronouns to replace “Anna” who is a female third singular person. So, it is better; Anna is my friend. She is very clever so that it does not appear a redundancy. Sekolah Dasar Negeri No. 101878 is one of the government schools which is located in Jalan Batang Kuis Tg. Morawa.
