Darma Bakti MS and Dr. Ir. Marheni MP. This research aims to know diversity of insects in arabica coffee plantations affected by volcanic ash eruptions and to
know important pests and natural enemies in the land of coffee plantations on the land affected by the eruption. This research was conducted in three villages in
Simpang Empat district, Karo Regency and one village in Dairi Regency and pest and diseases plant Laboratory Faculty of Agriculture, North Sumatra, Medan in
August until October 2015. This research used four traps insects sweep net, pitfall trap, yellow trap and handpicking, and repeated four times.
The results showed insects caught on the land affected by eruption there are 11 Order and 34 family, the highest relative density value is 43.92919, the
lowest amounted to 0.049863 and the value of insect diversity index Shannon- Weiner H is 1.97543 moderate whereas land is not affected by eruption there
are 11 orders and 40 family with the highest relative density value is 34.29 685, the lowest amounted to 1.408 and the value of insect diversity index is 2.325
moderate.
