Notice is a notification or warning of something, especially to allow preparations to be made. It can also mean a displayed sheet or placard giving news or information. Announcement is a notice appearing in a newspaper or public places and announcing something.

In this chapter, you will learn how to understand written notice and written announcement of different contexts. You will also learn the sentence structure of this type of text, and produce your own texts that function as notice and announcement.

The sentences used in notices are called imperatives that are used to tell someone that the action is FORBIDDEN. In some cases you add no (determiner) and change the verb into verb-ing (gerund) form. Example: No

swimming.

5. Students must turn off cellular phones before entering school building. As you can see, there some words left out in the sentences to make them shorter.
