bad. Her attitude, sometimes, makes her partner of speaking becomes surprised since she never does lip service.
However, Maria can be seen as a lonely person. Her life, sometimes, becomes very flat and sad. She does not have people around her to talk to.
Therefore, she always writes her feeling in her diary. Maria’s struggle for a better life is revealed in five human needs. They are
physiological, safety, belongingness and love, self-esteem and self-actualization. Maria realizes that she has to struggle because of her social condition and the
desire to do traveling. For some people, life is difficult, especially if they come from low class family while they have many dreams to achieve. In her childhood,
Maria has a dream of being settled in social condition. Moreover, as a young teenager who always wants to experience something new in life, she has desire to
do travel. She wants to see what she has learnt in school. During her journey of life, Maria also does several jobs to keep up her life.
Firstly, she becomes a shop-assistant in her town, Brazil to help her family financial condition and pays her own vacation to Rio de Janeiro, the capital of
Brazil. Being offered as an artist moves her direction to go to Switzerland. However, she ends up as a salsa dancer in a cheap club in Brazil. Struggling for
her life, she escapes from that job and tries another job as a model. She tries to fulfill her physiological needs since she knows that she is jobless and has no

money. Realizing that she cannot make use of her look then she decides to accept an offer by an Arab to have sex for one thousand francs.
Then, this experience brings her into a different life. She chooses to be a prostitute since she cannot find a job that is appropriate to her. Her new job is
completely different from her previous job. She has to work every night and serves her clients. However, as a prostitute she can fulfill her physiological needs
since she has a better payment. She also has fulfilled her safety needs in dealing with the community around her. Her love and belongingness needs are achieved
when she meets a painter Ralf who teaches her about love in a different point of view. Her self esteem needs are attained when she deals with her clients and gain
success. Her colleagues and her clients respect her as a very smart person. This respect increases her confidence in front of people.
Maria is also a self-actualizing person. It can be seen when she is not ashamed with her job. She knows all the consequences and is able to deal with
that. She is happy with her current job.
