Ideal-Acceptable I-Acc Interpretation of the Finding
17 Excerpt [5] and excerpt [6] are examples of Unacceptable Unacc
translation. Excerpt [5] came from the judge’s dialog with Anna’s father, Brian. The judge asked him to explain what they had done to Anna. The scene took place
in the court. Then, excerpt [6] came from Anna’s dialog with Mr Alexander. She told Mr Alexander that she was born to be the saviour for her sister, Kate.
In excerpt [5], the word ‘stand up’ was translated into ‘berdiri’. People
were able to understand the translation clearly C. However, the translator was possibly fail to discover and re-expressed the meaning of the word. The word
“berdiri’ was not accurate Acc and natural N for this translation. In the target language the word
“berdiri” means a position or someone who want to give a performance. The situation in the movie was not about position or giving
performance. For this excerpt, the researcher would like to recommend one ideal- acceptable translation
“jadi kau melakukanya untuk keluargamu”. The translation is considered as ideal-acceptable because the translation itself is accurate in the
form of the target language, clear for the readers in the target language to be understood, and natural in way of expressing it in the target language. Also, the
word ‘berdiri’ was not the correct form in the target language. The correct form was ‘melakukanya’.
Similar with excerpt [5], excerpt [6] is acquired one criteria, clear. In this excerpt,
“spare part” was translated into “suku cadang” inaccurately and unnaturally. In Bahasa Indonesia, the term of
“suku cadang” is used for fixing vehicle, not human being. Furthermore, the situation in the movie shown that the
18 character was feeling grateful. The translation will be different if the character
feeling sad or angry, the translation “suku cadang” was correct. For the excerpt [6], the researcher recommends an ideal-acceptable translation in the target
language. The ideal- acceptable translation is ‘Aku dilahirkan sebagai penyelamat
bagi Kate . ‘I was made in a dish to be spare parts for Kate’ has a meaning which
‘someone who was born to be the saviour’. The words ‘suku cadang’ was unnatural in this context in the target language.
The word ‘penyelamat’ delivered the meaning more accurately, clearly, and naturally.
